Engine cutting out with the choke off

I have a 2006 yamaha yzf450 and the engine cuts out while the choke is off. but when i turn the choke on it runs good but the idle is high even after the engine warms up. i replaced the spark plug but it continues to react the same way.

Adjust your idle screw on your carb so that it gets more gas just sitting there at idle. Tighten the screw one and a quarter turn and then start the bike. Adjust the idle to where you think it sounds normal. If that doesnt work check your float in your float bowl, it might be stuck in the down position. Clean with some carb cleaner spray and make sure it moves freely before putting the float bowl back on, youll have to choke it or prime the carb again to get it started. All the choke does is let in more gas and oxegen so you might want to check how far the carbs close when you push the choke back in. Is it impeading any normal carb setting. Check that too. Good luck.

3cyl 993cc daihatsu engine starts and runs then shuts down could this have something to do with the fuel cut solonoid

If you can keep it running with the choke set, your engine is starving for fuel, your fuel filter, or carb is clogged. disconnect the fuel line to the carb and check for flow. Fuel cut would do just that, cut ALL fuel so choking would not matter.

What is the standard air mixture setting ? and the needle position ? Yamaha ttr250 2004 bike runs on choke but when you turn it off bike cuts out like it runs out of fuel

Hi, You have a closed mainjet (need cleaning) as for idling you must screw in all the way and then unscrew 2 turns (that's a standart) and then you only have to do minor adjustments.
As for the needle position they all work the highest grove you set the more fuel to your engine. Start from the lowest, test the bike for power and rpm's and adjust from there
Good luck

1994Yamaha Virago 535 Starts and runs but it cuts off when I turn the choke off.

There is possibly some dirt blocking the main jet supply or the float level has somehow dropped and the engine needs the extra suction to draw enough fuel in to keep running and it is supplementing this extra supply through the idle jets.

My 2006 yamaha v star 650 will run with choke on but will not rev . the engine will not run at all with the choke closed . if you cover the air intake it will rev

You have a vacumm hose loose look for small hose no connecter to anything - should solve it - I had a similar problem with a ZX9r the other day - same would run fine on choke not idle or start without it

Good Luck

Will not start.

If it runs only with choke it means that the mixture is rich. The idle and main jets are thoroughly cleaned? The flow pin has a rubber nose.Is it soft? If it is hard like wood it does not cut of the gas completely and it overflows the engine with extra gas.The height of the floats, that controls the pin, is parallel to the carburetor's surface?

Backfire after shutoff

With the key off and the engine "running down", the idle circuit fuel is still going to into each cylinder then out the exhaust. A hot spot in the exhaust can ignite the unburned fuel creating an explosion, ( backfire ). Let the engine run down to an idle THEN turn the key off.
