All of the lights and the dash, radio, headlights everything works except it wont turn over. Is it the starter and HOW do I replace it?

First try and go back to unhooking battery and cleaning teminals real good with wire brush and put them back on tight you might have good enough contact to light up dash but not enough to start

I had a skim module go out in mine in the ignition, and I have a 2001. It's a 100 part, and now it starts fine.

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

SOURCE: My 98 jeep grand cherokee wont start.

fuse 8 40a supplies power to starter relay and ignition switch, to close the starter solenoid and engage the starter which draws directly from the battery. check to see that the starter relay is closing, if not ensure that the park neutral switch is not faulty (open circuit), it provides path to close relay (ground side) on the 85 - 86 terminals. if the starter relay does not close the starter will not run. if you have a spare relay swap out the relay for a quick fix attempt. hope this helps

Check battery condition and connections (dirt, corrosion, tightness, acid level) to start with.

2000 jeep grand cherokee 4.7 has a no crank no start on cold mornings

DOES IT CRANK in NEUTRAL? using fresh PRNDL contacts?
no crank, is easy to diagnose. with just one tool a voltmeter.
12.6vdc is a charged battery , rested, if lower, and not cold its discharged. so charge it or jumper cable crank engine off running donor car. easy huh?
if it cant crank it cant start, (mine can push start or gravity start)
battery cable lugs clean and tight x4 ends? green corrosion?

we then hot wire. the starter solenoid, next. (using old screwdriver as jumper bar)
it cranks now (good starter ) all in 5min work !
it does not crank bad starter.

so it cranks hot wired. good.
so next what is next, easy the KEY line.
the key line runs form the starter to the PRNDL switch and then the KEY switch (crank Start line)
if the car has SKIM immobilizer it cuts fuel not spark.

so i check for 12vdc into PRNDL cranking then key is ok.
if got 12vdc in to PRNLD but not out cranking the switch is bad.
or maladjusted?
its that simple ,with any 10buck DMM off walfarts shelf.

if car is hacked or alarms spliced in, we cant fix it here, its not stock.
same with remote start hack jobs.

Wont crank, running hot, heater blows cold air

Hi Angela. it sounds like you have a belt proble causing your alternator to not charge your battery AND your water pump and fan to not cool properly. Inspect your belts first. If you have more questions please ask me!

1991 Camry, ran battery down, won't start with jump.

Check all fuses under dash and hood. Install a good battery or jump it. Have someone try to crank it while you check for voltage to the starter solenoid. Make sure all battery connection including ground to body are clean and tight. If good, make sure there is 12volts at the stater. If good, it sounds like a new sarter. Please let me know. Is this standard or automatic?

90 jeep starting problem

Try replacing the wire from the positive battery cable to the small terminal it is attched to. It is the smaller gauge wire that is attched to the battery terminal. Be sure to use the right gauge, don't over or undersize it. I had this problem and it did'nt stop until I changed this. Without this wire in good condition, the starter will crank too slow or not crank at all, mimicking other problems (like bad battery, bad starter , etc.). Post if it works.

Jeep wont start

The crank position sensor is on the bell housing of the transmission, very hard to see, on passenger side, below the valve cover, depending if it is an early 2000 or a later 2000 model.

Seems like a starter issue. Not every time but most of the time when I try to start the car it just clicks...turn it over enough and it will start. It is a 1997 model. Great car and want to keep running...

Sounds like the starter is probably missin some teeth needs to be replaced... Also go to auto zone or whatever is near you and have them test your battery
