The mechanism of the polaris is driven by water pressure. If too much pressure gets to the drive mechanism, it will break. This valve allows extra water pressure to escape before it gets to the machine and rips the drive mechanism apart.

With these pool cleaners, if they are not backing up, there are several things that you could try. Lift the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should be going on and off. If it is not, you will need to replace the back up valve. If it appears to be working properly, try adjusting your wheel RPM.

If your pool cleaners not making proper cleaning patterns on the pool floor or turning it tight circles, try checking your RPM and adjusting your thrust jets. If the RPM is higher than 32, you will need to decrease the water flow. Also, make sure that your feed hose is floating and is not becoming tangled. Finally, check the filter bag, if full it can weigh the cleaner down on one side.

With these automatic pool cleaners, if they are not staying firmly on the bottom of the pool, it is most likely that there is air in the appliance casing.Try submerging your cleaner. Check your filter, pump, and debris baskets for excessive waste that could decrease the pool cleaners water flow. Check the hoses, hose connections, and swivels for leaks that could cause loss of water pressure. Check your wheel RPM. If it is below 30, you will need to incease the water pressure. If you have an adjustable return valve, make sure it is open all the way. Also, make sure that your pump is working properly.

1. Check the wheel RPM. If not in the 30-36 RPM range, refer to the manual for adjusting the wheel RPM.

2. Adjust the thrust jet downward.

3. Verify the backup valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off.

4. Check for water inside the head float.

Polaris 3900 slow

Check your in-line filter screen for debris, and the wall fitting, the backup valve, and swivels for leaks. Otherwise you make have a blocked drive jet, or an internal hose came loose. A local pool store should have a pressure stick they'll lend you to verify proper psi at the end of the Polaris hose.

The hose connected on the interior of the polaris could be disconnected. seperate the housing and you will see the hose. Or you need more pressure at the wall. Try closing are reducing the amount of flow to the skimmers to up the flow at the wall connection. Your back up valve should pull the polaris off the steps. Set the rotating jet propulsion on rear to 11: 00 position.
