Question about Olympus Camedia C-5500/C-55 Sports Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

I need to know how to remove the zoom lens to clean a water spot inside.

After dropping my camera in water I dried it out and it works fine but was left with a small water spot on the inside of the zoom lens.Which shows in my pics. Olympus wants $120.00 to fix it but I only paid $200 for the camera. How can I take the zoom lens off and clean inside?

My camera won't turn on even after I have put in an a fully charged battery. What could this problem be?

This problem is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the battery and rub the camera contacts firmly with a clean dry cloth or cotton swab. Heavy buildup may require cleaning with a fine wire brush or steel wool. After the cleaning, insert the batteries and see if the camera will power up.

If the camera powers on briefly, the lens zooms in and out, and then the camera powers down, your problem is likely due to lens damage or dust/dirt/lint in the zoom mechanism. A damaged lens will require professional repair, especially if the camera has recently been dropped. A clogged mechanism can frequently be cleaned and restored to working by blowing a stream of air (from canned air or a compressor) around the base of the lens where it meets the camera.

I hope these common remedies work for you.

Spots on image

Hi,

The 28-135 zoom lens has at some point had moisture inside it. These spots that you can see are dried water marks.

You have to take the lens apart and clean the lens with a class cloth.

Alternatively you can take the lens to a specialist service center to be professionally cleaned.

Regards.

Camera mmersed in fresh water

Electronics and water don't mix, you have ruined the camera, take the batteries out, take the camera completely apart and dry it completely, this may be ruined / lost cause but you can try.

Lens cleaning

Your camera is with fixed type of lens. Hence self cleaning lenses is not advisable. Contact camera technician will save your camera.

Water spot inside the lens on my Lumix camera

DON'T EVEN TRY TO TAKE THE LENS OFF!!!

To take the lens off, the camera has to be dismantled, and unless you are an experienced technician, there is a 95% chance that the camera will have more problems than what it started with.

Have you taken any pictures with the water spot inside the lens? If it is visible in pictures, then you have several options:

1. Ignore it.

2. Leave it there and use an image editor to clone out the spot in the picture. (Recommended).

3. Take the camera to a repair shop, or mail it to Panasonic's service center. This is the expensive option, to remove the water spot, the price most likely will be well over $100.

4. Buy another camera. The FZ7 is rated to about 50,000 shots, so if you are approaching this number they it may well be worth it to just get another camera.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Unless the spot is seriously affecting your pictures, then leave it there. By having the camera opened there is a high chance that other problems will be introduced, such as: fingerprints, dust or hairs inside the lens or misaligned lens elements.

My FZ7's lens is full of dust, yet this is not usually visible in pictures, when it is, I can usually remove it on the computer.

I would recommend taking the camera to a service center as a last resort.

I dropped my EOS Digital camera and 300 MM Zoom lense in the river. The camera has dried and seem to be workin gfine, but the zoom lense needs to be cleaned.

Dear catnip54,
You could obviously clean the front and back elements on the lens(use a microfiber lens cleaning cloth), but there is no way of cleaning the inside of a SLR zoom lens other than having an authorized service technician take it apart and clean each lens element seperately(which could be expensive). I would count myself very lucky that your camera body still works after being immersed in water.

Sincerely,
Agent Allan

WATER MARK IN LENS

This cannot be addressed except by a qualified artificer, and the cost would be prohibitive. Replace the camera, and be more careful in future.

Black spot on picture

My Nikon was having the same problem with the stationary black spot. I used a can of Dust Off ( the original compressed gas duster). I just removed the lens and held the camera upside down (lens facing the floor) and blew my compressed air inside and my black spot disappeared. Just a thought you might like to know !! Good luck.
