Normal 0 Try disconnecting the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software program. When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Then to use it on the Web do this.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
C. Windows Live Messenger:
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

My camera doesn't work

It is quiet difficult to address this problem as there can be many reasons for the same. Although for your perusal i am writing a few and their solutions:

1) Most importantly check whether your Camera Driver is installed correctly. To ensure that, Right Click My Computer, Manage, Device Manager and look if you can see any yellow question marks. If yes than download the driver and install it.

2) Acer Laptops comes with a Camera Software Utility, open it and see what it tells you about the status of your camera. If an error comes please post it here in comments.

3) Your camera is generally connected with a strip to the motherboard, if everything else is right then there can be problem with it. The connection of the strip could be loose.

My webcam doesn't work

Are you using the software the laptop came preinstalled or is this an add-on camera that you installed.
Uninstall the software, delete the hardware in device manager. Go to the mfg site and download the correct software your your model. Reboot the machine and install the software before activating the camera. When the camera is turned on, Windows will detect new hardware and install the driver. You chould be able to go to Windows Explorer and see the camera image there!

Your camera will go from "hardly working" to working hard!

My webcam is not recognized and I get a message that says that the camera is not turned on. I cannot find the device in my device manager in order to repair it and the driver. I need help! I can be...

You should first verify that the USB port can recognize a USB memory stick i.e. verify that the USB port hardware is working. If its is not, use Device Manager to reload the USB Host Adapter drivers.

If this is an external USB device (laptop or desktop) ...

the Device Manager will always locate the camera, if only as an Other Device or sometimes with the wrong driver in another device class. One possibility, if the host PC is a laptop, is check the Power Scheme. Set this to Always On, as this is supposed to (but not always..) stop Windows from turning off external interfaces (such as USB) to conserve power.

Check if the camera will appear in Device Manager on another PC. This will verify that the camera hardware is functional.

If this is a laptop built-in WebCam, it will usually appear in Device Manager under Imaging Devices. If it does not, I'd suspect that the camera hardware has a problem.

Let's assume that this is an external USB Camera. When the camera driver is loaded, the driver INF file is copied to a new file

C:\Windows\inf\oem.inf where is an arbitrary number.

When you plug in the camera, Windows PlugandPlay looks in C:\Windows\inf for the correct driver to assign to the device.

Windows can get confused about drivers, esspecially if you have attempted to reload the driver, or load a newer version.

If you do a search for all C:\Windows\inf\oem*.inf containing "Toshiba" or "WebCam" you should be able to locate one or more oem*.inf files that is the installed driver for your webcam.

Lets say this file is oem31.inf Delete this file and also oem31.pnf if its present.

This removes the last driver that was installed. Now, run Device Manager, and plug in the camera. If Device Manager can locate the camera (as an Other Device to start with), you should be able to reload the correct driver, either from the installed driver directory (if there is one) or from you camera CD.

When i use my web cam everything shows up green.

Well, I tried everything on this list in a matter of 5 minutes. Nothing worked. Then I made the old DSL modem analogy.

    Plug in your camera.
Right click on My Computer, go to Properties.
Go to the Hardware panel, and click on device manager.
Find your camera listing in there (probably under imaging devices).
Right click on it, and select uninstall.
Unplug your camera and then replug it in.

Worked for me. Of course, take SilverDragon's advice before mine - you don't want to be configuring the wrong device for hours and not getting any picture at all.
