My house has a central vacuum system hook-up but no vacuum cannister installed. My friend upgraded his central vacuum system and gave me his Eureka Mega Boss cannister and a brand new power-head , hose, handle. When I installed the cannister in my home and connected the 2 wires from my home system into the cannister and put it on "auto" , the suction works when I turn the swich at the handle. However, the power-head does not work. I also tried reversing the polarity of the 2 wires - but it is the same. I note that at the power-head, the cord has 3 wires connecting to a small plug at the handle. What could be wrong? Is there a separate power to be connected if the power-head were to work? Thanks very much David
The power head requires 120 Volts. Some hoses have a receptacle in the handle for the power head plug, and the hose has a cord at the wall inlet end that plugs into a receptacle. Some hoses have a plug at the wall inlet end that plugs into a 120Volt receptacle built into the inlet. The hose plugs into this receptacle when you push the hose into the inlet. The power for this built-in receptacle is wired with line voltage when the system is installed.

Tear in Eureka Upright "The Boss" 4870
Posted by kdunnett on Jun 07, 2008
I have a tear in the hose of an upright Eureka "The Boss" 4870 vacuum. I cannot find how to release the parts I need to get the hose out and put in a new hose (which I already have) I've searched the Eureka site and the owner's manual - nothing about how to replace the hose itself. Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum. In answer to your question, the owner’s manual may or may not give an example to install the hose only, but on most vacuums the hose sometimes will screw in to the hose cuff on both ends unless if it is a hose assm then it will then twist and turn. Check with the Eureka website and have them send out a schematic and owner’s manual for you so that you can install your hose properly. Sometimes you have to place hose glue on the end of each side in order for the hose to screw in properly. the website address will be listed below and they certainly should supply you with the owners’ manual and maybe a schematic of the parts breakdown that also may help. If not; check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: No Suction
is your brush roller turning? unplug the vacuum and see if you can turn the brushroller by hand.if it turns real freely the the belt is broke ,if its real hard to turn then something is caught up around the bearings on the ends of the roller.my suggestion is if your having that much trouble withit take it back and tell them you want a new one.if they want to keep your buisness they will give you a new one

The filter is not the reason it's not working. Take out screws and open Power Paw, remove fur from the roller brush on the right side, there is a small gap where fur winds around tightly, cut off with scissors or pull out with a small toothpick.

Most probably a clog in the neck. This is where the power head connects to the body of the machine.
Remove the base plate (screws in). Take a look at the back of the head behind the beater bar. There is likely something blocked in the neck of the unit. Clear it out and you will likely me OK.
While it is open take the time to remove anything wrapped around the beater bar.
Good luck, please rate this answer if it helps.
