My eureka enviro vac shut
Same thing happened to me. I checked the owner's manual and it turns out the Eureka Envirovac has a built-in thermal cut-off switch. So anytime the motor gets too hot, it just shuts down. Most of the time this is because it gets plugged or the filter is too dirty. In my case, the dust basket thingy and filter were clogged beyond belief. Probably would help to clean that more regularly in hindsight. Supposedly it will turn back on after the recommended 30 minute wait.
My brush roller is loose
I Have the same problem. It is the end of the brush roller opposite the belt end. It binds up and gets hot, then melts the plastic piece on the end of the brush roller. Have to order a new brush roll which is about $20-$25+shipping
Dirt is being trapped in the filter area instead of canister.
The canister has a filter as well. It needs to be replaced or cleaned. A damaged canister filter will feed dirt into the HEPA filter. (and the motor)
An improperly installed filter can allow dirt to bypass the canister filter and collect in the HEPA filter.
I suggest a new canister filter and then clean it carefully every week.
Here is a list of the filters for your vacuum.

No, it is not normal for the brushroll to stop that often. You may need to clear any thread, etc from the brushroll underneath the vacuum. Remove the screws from bottom of unit, stand unit upright, turn height adjustment dial to either side to allow hood to come off. Check the belt for any stress marks, stretching, etc. Replace the belt if necessary.

Not sure if this will help, but this is how my problems began, then I noticed the handle getting very warm. This went on for a few weeks (used the vacuum maybe 4 times).
Eventually, the handle got hotter and hotter, and finally it just
quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was
toast. Ordered a switch after talking
to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely
no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to
find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there,
but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's
Genesis). It is Part #27871.
