i would like to configure my router to use the usb port to the main computer, the other rj45 connection to the hub allowing another machine to share the internet connection

You would have to refer to the manual to set up the usb connection, so as the router knows that the main pc is connecting via the usb and not the rj45 port.

The only other thing may be that your router will recognise when you are connecting with the usb port, as long as it's the pc with the modem drivers on.
