Change password in BIOS - HP Compaq dx7500 PC Desktop

  • Anonymous Mar 28, 2012

How do I change password in BIOS? When pressing F10 at start I have to enter a password. If I use the same password as for login to windows, i receive the message "Wrong password".

  • Anonymous Jun 12, 2012

    Hello Carroll
I have been considering the answer for a while as it does not seem to be very practical.
Logically, I will come into the same position as I am right now, if I go will go on following the recommendations.
When I originally installed the windows, I recorded the PW used during the installation.
That is the PW I have used for logging on since than, as that PW does not work for entering BIOS, the only probable PW would be that the default PW is still active.

So, if I now carry on erasing the BIOS PW I will come into the same situation, ie having to enter the default PW.

    Regards Lennart Sandqvist

Remove the Power Cord, remove the Case, turn computer onits side so you can see inside (you might need a flashlight). Remove theCMOS Battery which is a silver battery about the of a nickel that is onthe motherboard. You will need a flathead screw driver to pop it out. Leaveit out for an hour or two and then put it back and reboot the computer. When you reboot you will have to go into theBios or System Setup because the computer will have forgotten the date, timeand bios password.

Bios password remove

Basic input/output system, or BIOS, is an interface to start and load the operating system. Making changes to the BIOS will change the way the operating system operates. Sometimes to make changes to the BIOS, you will have to enter the BIOS password. If you have forgotten the password, you can bypass it.
1.Download and install a BIOS utility such as CmosPwd or KillCMOS (see Resources). These utilities will remove BIOS passwords provided you are in MS-DOS or Windows mode.
2.Locate the jumper switch on the laptop's motherboard. You can identify the jumper switch by CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, JCMOS1, CLR, CLRPWD, PASSWD, PASSWORD, PSWD or PWD label. Once you have found the jumper switch, remove it and place it over the pin that is not covered.
3.Locate and remove the CMOS battery for at least 5 minutes. This will reset the BIOS password. Then enter the generic BIOS password to enter the BIOS.
I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

Unknown bios password

Did you or someone else change it? Normally there is no BIOS password.

Why do you need in??

To remove the password, remove the BIOS battery for 5 minutes and put it back in.

Free advice - don't use a BIOS password. It does nothing outside of a corporate environment.

If you think this will change or remove a Windoes password ... well ... sorry, it will not.
