Sony DSC-T1. Same problem, takes white stills but video OK. Can't view your solution to the previous guy. Not the same symptoms as the Sony 'Free Repair' issue. (Sony US.)
When I take a photo, it is completely overexposed (all white) no matter what setting I am on, even if flash is off. When I take a photo, it is completely overexposed (all white) no matter what setting I am on, even if flash is off.
Welcomejee, I have been on the Sony UK website and followed their instructions, various phone calls, various web pages, and have sent my DSC-T1 back to Sony, hopefully for a free repair. As someone stated, when you spend £400, $800, on a digital camera, you do expect it to last more than a couple of years. I am sure that the offending CCD Chip only costs a couple of pounds, $4 or so. Sony are quite right in offering this free repair service. Anyway, thanks for your contribution. My DSC-T1 has not come back from Sony yet so I don't know if I have got a 'result' or not. Will keep you posted. Hey Welcomejee, I received my DSC-T1 back in the Royal Mail post this morning, fixed, and no charge. On test it appears to take perfectly good pictures but I have not checked all permutations. The original problem of over exposure (white pictures) is no longer present. The repair took just over a week from dispatch to return with the only damage being my original box has sustained a crushed corner during the course of its two-way journey. (That is why we have a 1 cubic foot box with a 1 cubic inch camera inside it!!). Overall, although initially disappointed by the fault in the first place, very pleased with the correct way Sony UK have dealt with it. (The Sony UK Website could do with a bit of a shake up, not the easiest site to navigate through. I would probably struggle to find the repairs page again.) So pleased in fact that I have gone ahead and bought the Sony KDL-40W4500 LCD TV and the picture is great. Thanks for the guidance. Happy snapping fom Lancs, England. I have the same problem too, photos with the T1 are now washed out, but videos are fine... I'm just wondering, before I send it back for the 'free' repair - does anyone in the UK have the same problem and has had it fixed free of charge, or have others been charged? Thanks guys.
I never knew you are in UK as I have web link of Sony Support UK for subject problem. Anyway, that's great that your camera is on the way to get free repair and I hope your camera will be fixed by Sony. Let me know how much time is taken. Have a nice day.
