I cannot find the ecm / ecu on my 2002 toyota corolla. where is it?

Last night my car wouldnt start. ive been having a weak battery problem. so i asked a guy for a jump. he hooked the cables up wrong, now i cant get my car to start. the engine turns and starts up, but a second after it shuts back off. also the radio, cigarette lighter, and dash lights dont work. (no check engine light, oil light.. nothing) the door ajar light Does work, and if i have the key in the ignition and the door open, it beeps to let me know,, the door is ajar. anyway. i read that hooking the cables backwards might blow a 250 amp -Mega- Fuse (which i cannot locate) or fry my computer thingy .. the ecm / ecu (of which i also cannot locate) please help.

You can do more damage trying to fix it youself if you don't know what is really wrong. I suggest you bring it to a mechanic to check out the damage. It also could be a simple thing like replacing the fuseble Links.
First check that the battery is connected properly - to body ground and + to engine. Make sure battery is fully charged before installing. Good luck

2002 Toyota Camry overdrive fuse

It isn't a fusible item, it is a function of the Engine Control Module. You need an auto electrician for issues and to diagnose faults.

I assume you checked the fuel pressure and it is normal.
Are the spark plugs getting spark when it fails to start ?
Are you getting injector pulse from the computer ?
Any trouble codes stored in the computer ?

Dim dashboard lights and problem starting

Could be a loose or dirty battery connection, poor battery, or alternator. Check all the cables and connections to your starter. Clean your battery posts. Have your alternator and battery checked. It sounds like you are either running off just the battery or just the alternator. One of them is not right.

Shifting hard

You probably have a DTC code of P-2716.

Toyota knows about this issue, and a new engine Control Module (ECM) has been developed to rectify this condition. If your car is under 96 months old, and has less than 80,000 miles, the ECM will be replaced FREE by your Toyota dealer. The replacement ECM corrects the shifting issue.
Mention Tech Service Bulletin "TC015-07" when you take it in for service. If you are beyond the time and mileage as listed above, I can give you the part number for the ECU, if you want to purchase one.

2006 Toyota Corolla ECM Replacement Price?

your best bet is to get a used ecm form a salvage yard it should cost you about 200 dollars that is far cheaper than going to a dealership or a parts store. generally that is what i do when i replace ecms. there are plenty of wrecked vehicles and the ecm is good in them so why pass it up to get a part that cost brand new about 1500 dollars.. goodl luck. please rate this
