802.11g upgrade When I upgrade the PCMCIA card from 802.11b to 802.11g in my RCA DCW615R modem, the wireless is no longer recognized. Comcast does not have a firmware upgrade for this. RCA defers to my cable provider. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

    I have firmware version
ST49.04.0Bc, which will not recognize the 802.11g PCMCIA card. I can log onto the router, but the "wireless" tab disappears, while it was present with the 802.11b card.

    Any help would be appreciated!!!

You can have comcast allow you to log in using the new firmware at 192.168.0.1. You will need the user name and password from them. This will alow you into the firmware so you can change settings, including the PCMCIA card.

How do I lock my RCA DCW615R router?

You Router supports either WEP or WPA Security. First thing to do is enable the security, it will become difficult to enter from other users.
IF your using a default gateway (192.168.x.x) which is your Router Address. You can enter by Internet Explorer to go inside the Firmware of your Router (http://192.168.0.1) then enter.

This is an example of firmware worksheet:

The Rca DCW615R

You didn't say who your cable internet provider is, and many (or most, including Comcast) such providers require that the cable modem's MAC address be registered with their network. It's a security feature to prevent unauthorized (read: unpaid) users to access their network. The MAC address is usually found on a sticker at the bottom or rear of your modem. Write it down, then call your cable company's tech support the register it. It should work just fine after that.

What it sounds like to me is that your router has been running for a while, and thus start to break down slowly. You coul try power cycling it.

power cycling:
1.) Only unplug the power cord from the modem only, for about one minute.
2.) After one minute has passed, plug the power cord back into the modem, give it a few seconds to boot up again, and it should work.

If the modem still does not work, then the problem might lie with the computer itself, very hard to see happen, but it could still happen.
If in then that case, you would have to system restore your computer to an earlier date. that it was working fine on.

RCA DCW615R WIRELESS Cable Gateway , Factroy Installed Firmware needed.

I had the same issue with my RCA DCW615R. First time my ISP Comcast flashed it back to the old version. This time I could not find anyone who new how to do that. I used to have the software and I have searched the net. Seems they provider RCA does not have it.

This time I called Comcast because I noticed that the 192.168.0.1 brought me to their software update. They supplied me with the user name and password. I was able to get into the firmware and change all the settings using the new firmware. I think the only reason they gave it to me is because my printer is a network printer and it would not work unless I could access the firmware.

The old 192.168.100.1 does not work anymore because that was Cable Modem mode or CM mode. The new address 192.168.0.1 does work but you will need the user name and password from your ISP, this is RG mode or residential gateway mode.

Liked the old firmware better but they both do the same thing. Seems the Gateway works better with the new update. Still I would like to find the old firmware not sure why RCA doesn’t have it.
