Roper RED4440VQ1 how do you know if high limit thermostat is broken?
you have to unplug the dryer, and remove at least one of the wires and read it out with a meter to check it for continuity.you can go here and see the parts you need to check,http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Roper-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-RED4440VQ1/0893/0151200/W0905172/00003?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=RED4440VQ1
check the element, part number 17 on the diagram and is part 279838,if that's good check the thermostats on the heater box, part 9 and 15 on diagram,if one of them is bad buy part number 279816,it replaces both of them, also check the thermal fuse number 7 on the diagram and it's part 3392519.your lint filter is on top so all your parts are in the back, pull out the dryer, unplug it,remove the vent line and then the back panel, also take out the lint filter and the two phillips screws that are on the top panel and in front of the lint filter, when you're in the back, remove the 4 screws and clean out the metal duct that the filter slides into,if the vent line is a long run you can blow it out with a leaf blower, make sure nothing is blocking the air flow outside,if there's a cage or screen remove it so the lint doesn't build up and block the air flow.hope this helps and good luck.
