How is your transmission fluid? Check the level of your fluid while the engine is running.

SOURCE: I have a E36 328i

I had the same problem with my car it is not a major problem your car probably has high mileage, You can replace your torque converter replaced but that will be expensive, The price to fix it completely outweigh's the problem.

What I suggest and works for me is while the trans is still cold just anticipate the shift from 1st to 2nd and just before the change occurs eas of the accelerator and then when the car has changed from 1st to 2nd just accelerate again.

SOURCE: hard down shift

I've read article after article on Chrysler forums where anything other than Autopar ATF in their transmissions cause problems, erratic shifting, etc, including what your experiencing. The techs that deal with it daily through Chrysler/Dodge shops, say there is some properties or chemicals in Autopar fluid, that others just don't have, no matter what they say, and they have proven it, time after time, with symptoms that disappear, just by changing fluids to Autopar. My wife's relatives own one of the more respected & trusted repair shops in our area, and they swear by that rule too, because they've also experienced it in the past. I'm naturally assuming you know that your experienced enough to know how to install filter properly & what to watch for, so with that said, I hate to say it, but Mopar ATF4 is the one & only fluid for best results. P.S. I recently had my transmission with 260,000km. replaced at Ontario Reman, whom back when I was with Chrysler, was the sole supplier of rebuilt engines & transmissions for Chrysler. When I questioned them on the fluid in my new/rebuild they responded with same answer, Mopar ATF and nothing else. If you do some googling on it, you'll find many that went to quick lube or similar for same service only to experience shifting problems etc after. Switched back to autopar as advised & problems went away. Can't say 100% that's your problem, but if it were me, I'd change it.

SOURCE: auto trans shifting VERY HARD, possible cause?

It could be several things but I will give you a few ideas anyways to try and avoid the costly Ford dealer mechanics. Check your transmission fluid to make sure that it is full and that is still good and red. You may also want to just go ahead and change your transmission fluid but when you do so remove your transmission pan. Inside your transmission pan is your automatic transmission fluid filter screen. Make sure to clean it thoroughly and put back on filling the transmission with new fluid. Cleaning the screen is probably the most likely thing that will help. You also might want to consider using a transmission fluid additive that will help it shift easier. I've had pretty good luck with Lucas's products. Hope this helps. Be sure to let me know how it goes and if you need more help clarifying. Goodluck.

SOURCE: 2000 impala ls trans problem

YOUR PROBLEM IS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THERE 'S A DEVICE CALLED A PCS (PRESSUE CONTROL SOLENOID) VALVE. THIS VALVE MAINTAINS PRESSURE DURING SHIFTING PATTERNS. IF THIS VALVE LOOSES PRESSURE YOU WILL EXPERIENCE THE "SHUTTER/SLIP" SENSATION. TAKE TO A DEALER IF IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO YOU DON'T BEAR THE BRUNT OF THE COST!!

Transmition has a had time shifting is automatic

the mechanic should check the shifting gear and the shifting lever or the shift level and also the gear sleeve. Gear sleeve is the one that make the gear function. And lastly don't forget the transmission sensor because sometimes the problem can be found in the sensor .Then try to check the 1st. gear, 2nd gear,3rd gear,N ,R.of the trans mission to be sure .

Inconsistant transmission problems on 2003 jeep gcl

Many times this is caused by either a sticking electronic shift solenoid in the transmission or the trans fluid and filter need to be replaced, has the trans been serviced, it should have been done at 60,000 miles.
