The instructions for it are here but it does say not to connect it to a laptop, it does not use a driver on the wii so unless you can plug and play it into the laptop i doubt it would work

Error code 51420

Error Code: 51420 The Wii console is not able to connect to your wired router or modem.

  1. If your connection worked previously, check to see if there is a Wii System Update that you have not aquired. To get the latest Wii System Update:
    1. From the Wii's main menu, select the Wii icon along the bottom left of the screen.
    2. Select "Wii Settings".
    3. Click the left arrow to get to Wii System Settings 3
    4. Choose "Wii System Update"
    5. Choose "Yes" to connect to the internet and perform a Wii system update.

  2. Make sure that you are using the Wii LAN Adapter made by Nintendo (click here for a picture and connection steps). LAN adapters not made by Nintendo likely will not work with the Wii console.

  3. Check to make sure you are not running the Wii LAN Adapter from a USB hub (a device that connects multiple USB products through a single device), as this will likely not work. Connect the USB Connector directly to the modem or router.

  4. Ensure that the Wii LAN Adapter setup is correct, and that the Wii LAN Adapter was connected with the console turned off. For step by step connection instructions, please click here.

  5. Check to see if the ethernet cable you are using is not working properly, by connecting another ethernet cable from your router/modem to the Wii LAN Adapter. If the connection works using a different cable, then the problem was with the first cable.

  6. If possible, try another Wii LAN Adapter. If you are unable to try another Wii LAN Adapter, or are still receiving this error code, please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.

I'm playing a game called animal crossing: City Folk on the wii and in order for me to get a friend code i need the internet and I don't know where I put the ethernet cord at on the Wii. Can you...

You will need a device called a Wii LAN adapter, which will connect to the back of the Wii console, and then connect to your Ethernet cable. Since the Wii is not packaged with this device, you must purchase it from Nintendo's site, or at retail from a store that has the Wii's LAN adapter in stock. Fortunately, Nintendo's Wii LAN adapter is not expensive at retail, and most compatible with the console.

Nintendo's Customer Service (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/onlineWiredTS.jsp) is very helpful to answering questions regarding the Wii's Internet connection in great detail once you have a Wii LAN adapter.

Setting up wii for netflix

Netflix Instant is available for streaming on your Wii gaming console by early spring 2010. If you have a Netflix subscription you can watch movies and episodes easily on your TV through your Wii console. This article will detail the important things you will need to make sure that you can watch Netflix from the Wii.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need

  • Netflix subscription
  • Nintendo Wii gaming console
  • Broadband internet
    • 1 Check you Netflix subscription. The minimum subscription plan to watch Netflix instantly is the unlimited 1 DVD at a time plan or otherwise the $8.99 plan. This plan allows to watch movies instantly with unlimited monthly hours.
    • 2 Check internet bandwidth on your broadband connection. According to Netflix the minimum bandwidth requirement is 1.5Mbps. Netflix recommends for watching movies instantly a 3.0Mbps connection. Check with your internet service provider to confirm that these download speeds.
    • 3 A wired connection to your Wii console. An ethernet connection to your Wii console would be preferable. Unfortunately the Wii console does not have an ethernet port but a USB port. A USB LAN Adapter can be found at most computer supply merchants or online from Wii or Amazon.com. The ethernet connection is an ethernet wire from your home LAN router connected to your USB LAN adapter. The USB LAN adapter is then connected to the USB port on the Wii console. This connection will be how Netflix provides the movie streaming feed to the Wii.
    • 4 Sign up at the Netflix website for the Streaming Disc. Netflix will send a specially programmed disc to setup the Wii for watching the movies. When the disc arrives Netflix will provide instructions on how to install onto the Wii gaming console.

Where is the place you can put the internet connector in to ? is it on the back of the console or is it on the top i cant find it please help me

The wii does not come with an ethernet port (or place to connect to wired internet) built in. It's primary internet connection is through wifi or wireless internet. A USB adapter can be bought (like these) Those plug into the back of the console in the usb port.

I bought a nintendo wii,and I don't know if I need a wii LAN adapter to get internet and I have a wired network, but my friend told me she has internet and her network is wired and she doesn't have...

The only network adapter integrated into the Wii is wireless, you will need a network adapter to use a wired network.

Please see the official site for more details: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/acc/wiiLAN.jsp

Thanks, and as always a vote/feedback is appreciated. =)
