Computer doesnt recognize sound card
One of two things happened - Either the driver for the sound card became corrupted, or the sound card died. First thing to do is go through the control panel, and the add new hardware wizard, see if Windows detects and installs the card. If it detects the sound card, but can't find the driver, open the computer case, make a note of sound card manufacturer and model number, and use the manufacturer's support site to download and reinstall the drivers. (Alternately, if the card is integrated, or was put in the system by Acer, and if you're not concerned about data loss, many Acer desktops have a System Recovery partition, accessible by restarting and holding Alt. + F10 during post/startup - varies for some models)
If driver detection/reinstallation is unsuccessful, power off the system(Unplug the power cord as well), open the case, move the card to a different slot, restart the system, and try driver detection again.
If the card is STILL not showing up in device manager, its likely toast. You can purchase a decent Sound Blaster 5.1-7.1 sound card for under thirty bucks on Ebay, at WalMart, etc.
Hi, My IBM ThinkVantage laptop has lost its sound card all of a sudden. Its happened twice already. I've set it back it time a few times, but still, no sound. My IBM has Centrino Duo and Graphics by ATI. It's Type 2007-27C.
