The computer start up? or does't work?
If the computer doesn't work, check first the power supply.
Second, the memory and the video card.

See first which video card is supported by the motherboard (Agp, 2x, 4x, 8x) or use some PCI video card.

  • Anonymous Oct 09, 2008

Be sure to insert in the right way the video card

    Turn on

If you still are without signal

Check the memory and the CPU

If still no signal >> Insert another AGP video card

If still no signal Bad motherboard slot or bad motherboard (needs to be replaced)

Compaq presario cq70 wont boot up

Fn+F4, sure. the external command key. sure
ok VISTA, first time any one tells what OS is there, wow.
step one on all PCs lap or desk top is what,
does the screen show any text at all?
like Hit Esc to enter setup or BIOS>
we first see of BIOS is alive. it not the PC is DEAD.
zero text means DEAD PC> and NO BIOS means DEAD PC
so out comes that old useless LT battery.
useless as in , if its original its bad. most are.

you skipped step 1 here, (battery out)
and next fans work? and blow air, no lint packups. inside.
learn that PC's go dead, with overheat, can happen fast.

Compaq c300 wont turn on power button just flashes

I imagine that is one of the compaq's that have the Ninvidia graphics card in it. The issue with those laptops is that after so long the graphics card just kinda gives out and it basicially renders the motherboard useless because it is an onboard card. As of now I have not found a solution to the problem other than getting another laptop. Also, that may be one of the models that was up for recall from the factory, the recall is past deadlines now but they did recall a good number of machines because of the fault.

no initial problem stated, let me guess wont boot to.
came with win98./2000/XP
what was yours, (is) OS, XP?
cures: (vast)
  1. ,main battery out, works now, wow.
  2. new $3 CMOS coin cell battery, ? sure.
  3. do the long reset yet, ? battery main out, power pack out, hold power button for 30seconds/
  4. BIOS now works, now. so if OS is borked, hammer the F11 key
  5. to restore THE unstated OS to day 1.
  6. if that fails only HP recovery media is the fix.

Wireless not working compaq 730us

First thought check for the wireless switch. It is normally located on side of the laptop, some models have this button above the keyboard. Make sure it is turned on. You can normally tell if it is by the color of the light by the switch. Blue = on, Red = off.

If this is not the case answer the following question to help narrow the search:

1. Has the computer connected to this network before?
2. Can the computer connect to anyother network (e.i. at a friends house)
3. Were any updates install?

I hope this helps.

Installed new memory and now wont boot up. Static problem? I remember compaq once told me how to fix it.

A few thing can be wrong.
  • Wrong speed memory - Make sure it is both xxxGHZ, same as your old memory (Take the old memory to the computer store)
  • Memory limit with each slot (Max memory divided by # slots)
  • Overall memory limit (visit the mfg spedific model's page)
  • Incompatable/Bad memory
  • Mix your old and new memory (1 old / 1 new) If the new is incompatable the old (in slot1) should work and an odd amount of ram displays

My old compaq presario wont read my scan disc

Can you use that port to read any other device? What operating system are you using?Did it work previously?Windows 98 you will have to install drivers.Chances are that old computer has a usb 1.0 so it might not work. However try another device in that port or any usb port on the computer to see if any ports are working.Does your scan disk work on another computer.Have you done a windows update recently.Make sure you try all the above.
Good luck
