when ever your in your text message mode just hit the "#" key. This will let you switch from preditive text to normal, or let u switch to 123 mode, where you can just type only #'s. just keep pressing the "#" button. to get where you want.
Hi, hopefully this works :) open up a blank text, of which you can type in, then click Options. scroll down till you get to Input Language. choose English. that should take you back to your blank page, and predictive text should be off :)
to turn off predictive text go into messages-select- create new -select-message-text message-select then press and hold the * key and you will see in the top right corner it changes from ABC to abc or T9. to send sms messages go to settings -select -application settings-select-message-text message-select-sending options-select- GSM alphabet then maximum then text.

try this: While starting a text message, hit the menu key and see if it brings you to a text entry menu ... Select alpha, numeric, word, ... you usually can switch around while writing the message via the menu.
I hate to state the obvious - but why not update the firmware? I believe that phone comes with the USB cable for data connectivity. It seems it should stay that way by default - so maybe there is a firmware upgrade.
