Try setting the channel to 11, but it depends on your location, for the best connection try finding the right channel that suites your locations.

sometimes there are alot of devices that can interfere with the signal coming from the router.

for your reference try this link for wireless range.

My HP laptop lost power (not because of its fault) and now I can not aquire an IP address via either of my wireless cards or the RJ45. Comand prompt inquiry shows 0.0.0... and ipconfig/renew gives an error...

Try theses options: ( turn off and on the power of your router / restart your laptop ) - to refresh all. See also if other computer and laptop can connect to the internet thru the same router just to isolate.

1. use your wired connection first ( rj45 ). Unplug and replug both ends of the cable from the router and from your laptop. Restart your computer. Then check if its ok.

2. Try to do a loop back test to check if your network card and the tcp/ip is working properly. To do a loop back test, go to command prompt and just type " ping 127.0.0.1 " and press enter. It should reply and should tell you 0% loss. If there's an error then disable and enable your LAN ( Local Area Connection ).

3. Do " flush dns". Go to command prompt again, then type " ipconfig /flushdns" then press enter.

HAVE INSTALLED NETGEAR DG834PN, WORKS WELL WHEN CONNECTED DIRECT TO LAPTOP, BUT WILL NOT CONNECT WHEN UNPLUGGED FROM COMPUTOR

  • Your laptop has to be configured with the wireless settings set in the router.
  • In your laptop, you may check the available wireless network that it can detect and you must select your own wireless network.
Hope this helps!

I recently bought an Amilio Laptop made by fujitsu Siemens I have tried two different wireless routers and cannot get the laptop to connect with either. It does have wireless built in. What am I doing...

Hi,

It might be that the Operating System is preventing connection to the router because:
  • the network is unsecured. look for the "Connect Anyway button";
  • the Amilo's WiFi is set to a manually configured IP address, pls try "Obtain an IP address automatically" in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties of the Wireless Network Connection of the Control Panel/Network Connections;
  • it maybe that your Amilo has its own WiFi configuration and if so, you should disable the OS to manage your wireless connection.
Incidentally, you could try downloading a third party Wireless network detection software that is to verify that the Amilo's wireless card is working and that it can sense the Wireless router. An example would be NetStumbler.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back exact model number of the Amilo laptop, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have recently aquired a router and a Wireless PCI Card. Although I am automatically on the internet when I boot up my Computer,I keep getting a message on screen that I have limited or no conectivity....

the limited connectivity means that your router is not connected wirelessly probably because you have not entered the correct passkey, or it's still giving your lan RJ45 network cable the ip address and this is why you are still connected to the net.

If you are on a Netgear modem/router as i suppose you are if it's from sky, you should connect the RJ11 phone line cable into the router leading to a broadband filter, then connect the filter to your phone socket.

There should be no wires between your pc and the router, so take out the wire that is connected to the router (RJ45), which you should have used to set the router up coming from your onboard wired network card.

You will now be connected only via wireless connection, right click on the wireless network icon in your taskbar, click show all connections and then click on your SKY****, whatever it is and then you will need to enter the WPA-PSK security passkey which is with your Sky paperwork or on the router itself.

My wireless adapter can detect my network but cannot connect to it

you may have wep or another security function working on the wireless network if not then the mac address needs to be added to the ok list in the router to access the network

Wireless Connectivity lost

Greetings Roxie
Are you using XP or Vista?

The default ip address for a Netgear 192.168.0.1 - the default user is 'admin' and the default password is 'password'. Is it possible for you to run an ethernet cable from your PC to the router or from your laptop to the router so we can address its configuration?

Once you have connected the cable, wait about 30 seconds and then open Internet Explorer. In the address bar type 192.168.0.1

At this point the login to the router should come up. If it doesn't report back and let me know. If it does - log in using the default info I listed above. Verify that your connection type is DHCP. From there go to the wireless settings page. Make sure that wireless is enabled and make note of the name (SSID) of your network. Also take note of what channel you are broadcasting on. By default it is probably 6 but you should probably change it to 11. You can also enable or disable the security encryption from this page but lets disable encryption if it is not already disabled.

Once you have verified these items are present and enabled, save the routers configuration. Disconnect your laptop from the router. Unplug the power to the router. Unplug the power to the modem. Make sure all of the lights on the modem go out. Stand tall and sing our national anthem (wait about a minute) and then plug the modem back in. Once the online light has gone solid green plug the power back into the router.

Now go to your laptop and observe the little computer icon in the lower right by the clock. Does it indicate that there are networks available? If so - double click on it to see the available networks. Make sure you are connecting to YOUR network (the SSID we took note of earlier). If it says connected - you should be OK. If it says anything else let me know what it is. Good luck!

Can not get internet or local web thru my netgear router (wgt624v3)

Have you run the configuration CD that came with the router?
You may also have to make changes to your firewall configuration in order to connect to the Internet.
If you no longer have the install CD, use the network setup wizard included in WinXP.

Acquiring ip address

you may need to set a key on your router and PC (recommended for security anyway). Access your router with your internet browser (default is often 192.168.0.1 - listed in your manual) and get the long default key. Put this key into your wireless card set up and reboot.
