Try setting the channel to 11, but it depends on your location, for the best connection try finding the right channel that suites your locations.

sometimes there are alot of devices that can interfere with the signal coming from the router.

for your reference try this link for wireless range.

Aquiring Network Connection over and over. RAWR

How many DHCP devices are there on the network?
There should be only one. Try disabling the DHCP in your device, then your neighbours router should issue IP addresses and all will be ok.

Please Help! My IP is driving me crazy!

modem only transmits signal.

router talks to your provider and gets IP address from them, depending on your subscription, you may have a static or dynamic IP.

your computer gets internal (home network) IP from the router, you don't have to worry about that since it is the router's IP address that is seen on the internet (router splits / shares a single internet connection in home networks).

about wireless connection from computers/wi-fi gadgets to the router, must configure the router with the ff:

wireless network name (aka SSID)
security type (WPA/WEP) and password/passphrase/security key
channel (1-12)

the above info must be then set to the connecting computers/gadgets

about wired connection: a working ethernet cable (looks like a phone cord but fatter) and a working computer/gadget ethernet port.

I can not connect to the local area connection.

1. check your network adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 justcheck the next address IP in your network.
4. after typing subnet IP will automatically set
5. type the router IP address as your default gateway
6. click OK to save your new settings

hope this will help you

Laptop can't aquire IP address

This sounds to be a compatibility issue with either the wireless software or wireless card. Check to see if there are any updated drivers for the wireless card at IBM's support site. If there aren't any or the card still doesn't work after the updated drivers are installed, then you might try a different/newer internal wireless card, or a universal external wireless card for use with your home system.

No wireless

Hello Chantalallie

Is the laptop able to connect to the Internet wirelessly over other networks? (say at a coffee shop or Internet cafe, etc.)

(We want to pin down whether or not the issue is w/ your laptop or w/ the router.)

If the laptop is not functioning wirelessly at all now, make sure that the wireless radio button on your laptop has not been inadvertently placed in the OFF position. Where that button is located varies w/ ea. laptop. If you're not familiar w/ where it is, look closely along the sides and front of your laptop and above the keyboard (below the monitor).

Still on the assumption that your laptop's wireless radio is not working:
(A) Click on START
(B) Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS
You should see a connection called "Wireless" or something similar.
(C) Check to see if that connection is DISABLED.
(D) If it is, right click on it and choose ENABLE

OK, now we'll await your answers before proceeding as doing so now would necessitate making assumptions regarding your equipment, operating system, etc. that may not be correct.

Thank you,
BJ
