I have an HP mini and hit something that locked the mousepad.there is a small red light that is lit up on the pad itself

Whats the model of your laptop, it may have a button combination to unlock the mouse, or even a single button that locks / unlocks it.

You could always plug an external USB mouse into it in the meantime.

Is the on/off button on the top left of the mousepad turned on. The light should be blue and not red.

That "red light" indicates that the "lock" function for your mousepad is active. The "lock" function is not unlike the "hold" function for your ipod. I am not familiar with this model laptop, but all HPs follow the same basic design, so if you consult your users manual, I am sure you will find the key that you need to press to unlock it.

I am niot familiar with this particular model, but based on what i have seen with other HPs, that means your mousepad is locked, similar to the hold function on an ipod.

Right click on 'computer' icon

Select 'properties'

Choose 'device manager'

Look downlist to find touchpad listing 'mice and other pointing devices'

Click 'disable'. Then 'enable'.

Try again with touch pad.

You may need to uninstall the driver and the reinstall.

• first a fall u check a small button in mouse pad bottom right hand side .
• whether it will lock or unlock.
• it indicates above whether the button is lock or not
• if it is locked then press it again,it will release
• then u have to work without scroll the side bar....

In Windows 7 and Vista, click on Start button and type Mouse in Search.

When Mouse appears in the results, select it to open the Mouse Properties windows

Under the device tab, select enable.

Hello; It has to be a button you might have pressed near the mousepad on the notebook. Try clicking that button again, the red light will go off.

on the new hp mini - you double tap the touchpad indicator (upper left) to toggle the touchpad on & off

On some laptops, there is a button that is used to disable the mousepad.  Sometimes it is a small button just above the mouse pad that has a light next to it.  Normally when it is off, the light is either red or amber colored.  There is almost sometimes a function button to toggle the mouse pad on and off.  It is normally one of the "f" keys above the numbers on the keyboard, and should have a picture on it of a mouse.  Then there is usually a FN key in the lower left corner of the keyboard.  You have to hold that down, and press the "f" key at the top of the keyboard that has a picture of a mouse on it at the same time.
