Take the side of the computer off and look for the model number on your motherboard. you need to know if your using a network card or if its onboard Lan. if everything you need is onboard all you need to do is search your motherboard number on the internet and download the drivers. you need can select what you need, sound, lan etc. your goning to have to use a friends pc so you can download these files. when your Lan is installed go to the microsoft webpage and get the latest updates, that will solve the usb in your device manager

It sounds a little strange because it should do as the disk tells it. Check the BIOS is set for DVD/CD Rom drive as 1st boot device. Insert System disk into drive. Re boot the computer and follow the on screen prompts. Vista will have no problems because it will check the OS that is installed, notice the date stamp is older than Vista and install a new OS on the drive. XP however may have a problem. If you have SP2 or SP3 installed, your XP system disk is older and will not be allowed to load without prompting. Hope that helps.
Hello charlieri_1, this happens often when installing 'new' OS, especially when creating a "Dual Boot." What you will have to do is a "Clean Install" starting from scratch; unfortunately! You will have to use the "Recovery Disk" to install Windows XP, first! Next, after you have restore the XP [OS]; then you will install the more "Updated" OS, [Linux] "This is just the Operating System way of order; oldest first, latest last, to properly install the OS. Hope this helps you, thanks paul7of9."

To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive,
reboot pc pressing F1 button.. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary
boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this
appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive
you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select
partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be
aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first)
Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system. Try the above solution and let me know how you get on?
Are you trying to set up a raid configuration? If not I would reformat using the 98 disk and reinstall. (You may be able to skip installing 98, try installing xp first and it should ask for the disk containing the software (win98) that qualifies for the upgrade.
hi! there, set up exe. that was when your setting up win 98 you have to install that came from floppy disk before you can install win 98.there is an os win 98 in your system you have to delete that previous os before installing another win xp.restart ur computer. press F2 to open your bios set-up . then select bios set-up priority your cd-room drive second, your hard drive. last, quit and save set-up. and then your computer will restart. insert your cd windows xp then reinstall your window xp. delete the previous os then follow the set up on your window xp until you install your new window xp.
Using another pc, download the driver for the model of LAN card used. Goto the control panel - system - device manager and unistall the card (keep hardware attached to pc) and reboot. Use the downloaded driver to reuninstall. When it gets back online, do the same thing with any other device not working. Be sure to get the drive for the operating system used.

I run XP Pro and USB ports all malfunctioned, after tyring EVERYTHING I reloaded windows and it worked.......for about 8 months, now I'm back to I can't use my printer, storage devices ANYTHING that plugs into the USB ports.
