How do i wire a eight circut timer
If you add a comment and say which timer brand and model number, I can probably pull a manual and give you wiring instructions.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

Outside lights flicker
Like all of these timers, it is rated for incandescent loads only. In this case, only 500W of purely resistive loads.
A transformer is a highly inductive load. The electronics in the switch are not designed for this. The lights flickering is evidence of the circuit 'ringing', when it tries to shut down. Chances are very good that each timer switch you try will be damaged by the inductive load, and fail in short order.
To power a low-voltage lighting transformer, a mechanical timer is normally used. You are not going to fix this problem keeping the transformer on this type of timer switch.
The relay coil is an inductive load as well but requires much less power to operate. The problem with electronic timers is that they require a minimum load to actually work and a relay coil is less than that required minimum.
A good example is a timer used to operate compact fluorescent lights - not a good match. In my "energy saving spree", I changed my outside lights to "bug repellent" CFL lights and found the timers would reset every day. Switched back to tungsten and all is well.
