Makes grinding sound when turned on---does not

Grinding sound may be the turntable not sitting properly on its support. Regarding the heat issue, check the door safety interlock switches for proper function.

As you use your oven, open the door while it is running, arcing occurs on the little contacts and they eventually burn. When they cannot make contact, the oven doesn't know if the door is closed or not. Forget what YOU know about the door ... the oven must know and it knows by the information it gets from these switches. Door open, the oven will not turn on the heat.

Microwave makes a loud noise when turned on to

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for high voltage section test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

I need to know how to unlock it

The Child Lock is on.

Your owner's manual covers it. If for some reason you don't have yours, you can download it free here.

CHILD LOCK
You may lock the control panel to prevent the microwave from being accidentally started or used by children.

Example: To set the child lock.
1. Touch STOP/CLEAR.
2. Touch and hold START more than 4 seconds. LOCKED will appear in the display window with two beeps.

Example: To cancel the child lock.
1. Touch and hold START more than 4 seconds. LOCKED will disappear and you hear two beeps. At this time the oven is ready.

How to replace door handle on MW1501W

To access these screws on MOST microwave ovens, you just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. This can be easily be accomplished by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel and pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful RF radiation.

With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and can easily be accessed with a screwdriver. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel, gradually working your way around the perimeter of the door glass to ensure it snaps back into place and seats properly.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.

You can view an exploded view diagram of your microwave at pcappliancerepair.com for reference. Just type in your model number and locate the parts listing for the door. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Everything works except it won't heat anything

Check your door safety interlock switches. Remove the cover and look for the tiny (usually) black micro switches. Dont touch the silver can.

If you open your door while the oven is working ... these switches arc which burn the contacts. Eventually, they will not close. When that happens, the oven doesnt know the door is closed and will not turn onthe mangatron.

Find em at Radio shack,Appliance parts place or www.Repairclinic.com

Replace the switches for about $10.00, take your significant other out to dinner with the $100.00 you just saved.

The mircowave has no power, outlet works, just mirco strop workin

HI, the popping sound that you herd was the result of a failed HV capacitor. This failure will render the unit inoperable, as you has witnessed at this time. Replacing this failed HV capacitor, will correct this issue. I would also advise to check the cut-off fuse and in-line AC fuse as well. There may be some issues concerning the integrity of these fuses as well.

Over the Counter Goldstar MV1501 1500 watt

You can download the service / repair manual here.

Most computers will open the manual automatically, but you may need the free Adobe Reader.

It will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and reference numbers. Unfortunately it does not give you part numbers for some reason...

You can find & order parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

I would first check the fuse and oven thermostat.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions here are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Once the fuse and oven thermostat are known good and the microwave functions, if the lights / fan still won't work or won't shut off, then you have a problem with the control board.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation or inside light, too.

You should check your light sockets for a short, too.

Timer issues

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

Let us know what you find out.

If you still have trouble, please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you. Otherwise...
