does the player switch on at all? does it have a replacable battery, if not leave it plugged into a charger or computer for an hour to see if it puts any charge into it, and if the mp3 player has software then install it but only if you can get it to switch on. if nothing happens after doing all that then the player either has a faulty internal battery or the player itself is faulty.

your first suspect should be your battery....kindly charge it for few hours and later on your player....if you still face the same problem then this is the problem usually caused by virus and sometimes it might be software failure also, which causes some of the menu not tof unction,the only solution is to format ur player by connecting it to p.c via u.s.b.mode or re install software from the nearest service centre of memorex,it also updates your player software version....

Don't know if this can be regarded as a fix, but it may help deal with the issue- keep the lock set on, only unlocking it briefly enough to make keypresses, after which you immediately set it back on lock. If the problem your unit has is the same as with mine, you will see LOCKED pop up on the screen randomly even when you are not pressing any keys. So there is a mechanical problem with the keyboard, some kind of electrical interference being interpreted as a keypress, or buffered keypresses.
