Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Error measage in the Nikon D80 camera
Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair
center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope
the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

On playback screen of my nikon d80..
When viewing the images you've shot, spin the sub-command knob (front right of camera) to change the photo information you will see. There are a few modes so keep spinning the knob until you find the viewing mode you prefer.

Arent you able to set the shutterr speed with the settings?
Remove off the batttery and put back after some times, select a low speed and click, if no response while cliccking tap onthe lens hood several times.
If not then at waht speed does the shutter inititates, if so increase the aperture wide to accomodate more light so that it compensates . No this wont solve the issue as we need to open and see the reason for shutter speed control, can be the triggger circuit.

Shutter button will not release
You must wait for the camera to lock in the focus (it will beep) before the shutter will fire. Or, you could go to manual focus and then it will fire whenever you want even if the picture is not in focus.

I don't have a Nikon, but my guess would be that the clock battery is getting low and needs changing, unable to maintain the clock settings.
If you run it by a camera shop, they should have one.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

How do you set up the digital remote control
If you're using a wired remote, you don't have to do anything. Just use the button on the remote instead of the shutter release button on the camera.
If you're using an infrared remote, set the camera's shooting mode to one of the remote modes. The quick-response mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. The delayed moded gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter.

Nikon D80 shows err and no picture can be taken.
I have just experienced the same problem while on vacation - very frustrating! Luckily my wife had a D60 so we could continue shooting. I checked the troubleshooting section of the manual and it advises to try firing the shutter. This did not clear the problem and indicates a camera malfunction, so I am arranging for the camera to go to a Nikon Service centre. It's very annoying as the camera is only 20 months old and has not been used heavily.

Use a clean moist cloth and clean the electrical contacts on the back of the lens and in the mount on the body. When putting the lens back on, try jiggling the lens a little and see if that helps.

Hi, First question is does this happen with another lens. If so then it is the camera, if not it is the lens. If you determine it is the camera take the lens off look inside do you see the sensor or do you see the mirror. My guess is sometimes you see the sensor. What does that mean, the mirror that swings up out of the way is sticking up. If you determine that is the issue call Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689.

Are you getting a Err message? If so The ERR message is not a good thing. Read page 132 of the D80 Manual. Also, try a factory reset found on page 129 of the manual. On the left side of the camera is the terminal cover, inside below the USB connector is the reset switch. If that does not work call Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689.
