Since you've attempted to install the software from another source, you may have the product partially installed in the Windows registry. This could block a new installation. You can try to uninstall the product with Revo Uninstaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html .
Otherwise, you will need to go through the registry and delete lines related to PED Basic. Make sure to back up the registry before searching it. Start > type regedit into the search box. Then File > Export (choose all and back up to a location other than the c: drive).

Embroidery Magic 2 is not compatible with Vista (or Windows 7). For more information, try contacting the creators via the contact at: http://www.auntymdesigns.com/html/software.html . The work-around is to use the software is a second machine with an older version of Windows. This can be a real computer, a dual boot computer or a virtual computer. For most of these you need a valid (licensed version) of the older Windows OS and the virtual computer program (for the last option). The exception is that Virtual PC and XP mode can be installed for free on computers running Win7 Pro or Ultimate. For a virtual computer, you will not be able to have the PED Basic hardware available to both the real and virtual computer. It can be installed on one or the other. Also files can't be shared directly between the real and virtual computer. They need to be saved to external media (optical media or external drive).

However, the installation of the software or hardware in a virtual computer is the same as any software install on a real computer.

I've just had the same problem and found that you need to change the size of your hoop down to a smaller hoop size. Hope that works for you!

HI irenepaine. I've installed this once and I know it could be a little tricky because you need to use the software to convert whatever design you want - from JPEG to the machine's type. Then you use the card to save the file and then connect it to the sewing machine and then, using the display select the file you want. You need to use like 2 different software to acomplish this. Also you can do it thru the USB cable. Since I can't remember - I'm sending you the brother support site. Please find the correct model and see if it helps.

the card may be bad or damage or the card reader is bad or it is damage

it sounds like you may have a driver problem and possible the installation was not done properly. I would say. uninstall whatever you download and start from scratch as follows:

if you DO NOT have vista or windows 7 do this follow the instructions to install the sofware from the the manual

if you need to download the sofware in case you don't have the cd you can download the updated sofware from here

if you DO HAVE vista or windows 7 you need to download the software package from this page just go to the bottom and you'll see section for your operating system

right click on icon click properties and set to xp

Try using a different card. If the card is damaged it may not be read in the sewing machine.
Also , the card should be compatible with Babylock, but give them a call just to ensure there is no particular issue with this model. you find their number on the Babylock owner manual.
If the design is being saved, software should be OK, you can try reinstalling software and plugging the PED to a different USB port, but I don't think it will make a difference.
Test a different card to check if the card is faulty, if you do not have one, contact Brother.
