If you have used re-chargeable batteries in the past, yes, otherwise no. If you consult the manual, you will find the correct type of batteries to use.
Two possible issues.
1. The software that checks the battery is either wrong and your are not charged or you are charged. Just attempt taking pictures and see how long it lasts.
2. I don't know the age of your camera but the batteries could be shot and in need of replacement.
