Check the hoses nearest the bulkhead, sometimes they split and you can't see the leak because it's below the hose and running off your engine or bulkhead. If a hose is split, don't pay a fortune getting a new one. use copper or plastic pipe and a couple of jubilee clips after you have cut out the damaged peice and rejoin the hose.

Has it been run hot lately?do you have water or coolant in your oil? pull the engine dipstick to see. do you have oil in the radiator? do you see coolant coming from the exhaust? these are all signs of blown head gasket. unexplained useage of coolant with no apparent signs of leakage usually means that coolants going trough the engine and out the exhaust system.smell bad when idleing in enclosed space? unexplained smoke coming from tailpipe when weathers warm? water residue dripping from tailpipe after the engines warm? i've given you most of the signs of a blown head gasket, which is what you requested, using alot of water with no sign of leakage. if no water in the oil,no oil in the water, then the leaks into the exhaust and out the tail pipe. you can do this, remove the ant-freeze from engine, then apply nanno technology[auto zone] water only added to engine. follow directions on 1quart bottle. this has worked for me several times.[for blown head gaskets that leak into exhaust] it's new technology that's new to the automotive industry. 1 quart costs $20.00 considering how much it costs to replace a blown head gasket that's only leaking into the exhaust sysytem, that's worth a gamble l to me. i've seen it work myself.

The water in the radiator it lasts for abou 400km and after that it shows a sign that Im running out of water. What is the problem?

I would pressure test your cooling system, or have it done by a technican. Have you noiced any coolant/water in your driveway/garage? If not that could indicate and internal leak.

What are signs and symptoms of a blown head?

white smoke out the tailpipe and the smell of anti-freeze in the exhaust gas. an engine that over heats either only at highway speeds or town driving, when all other things like, rad cooling fan working properly, thermostat is working properly, no external coolant leaks. the spark plugs may show signs of coolant on them. just some things that are indicators.

97 K1500 passenger side floorboard gets soaking wet with really hot water. No sign of leaks in hoses or radiator and air conditioning drain is draining. Help??

Check the heater core it has a leak in it. Is the radiator losing antifreeze or a small amount at a time. Then it would be the heater core if no other leaks are showing.

Coolant leak but no sign of leak

Do your windows fog up when you use defroster? Any residue on the inside of winshield? Is the carpet damp under either floor mat? These are signs of a leaking heater core. If no to all of these check at tail pipe when running for excessive water (depending on the climate if it's cold out of coarse there will be some condensation) if so does is leave a residue on your hand? This could be the sign of a blown head gasket, blown intake gasket or cracked head. I don't know what engine you have but, Chevy 3.4 engines are known to blow intake gaskets.

Changed the thermostat car still getting hot pouring out of the overflow only place we can find leaking what causes this

the radiator is partially blocked, and heat transfer from water to air cannot be acheived, the radiator, if in good condition can be taken apart and the tubed cleaned, if the radiator is showing signs of fin deteriation, the whole thing must be replaced.

Water in oil

Water in the engine oil can be a sign of a leaky head gasket, between oil and water passages. There was a run of Subaru models which did have trouble with head gasket leaks, due to bad parts supply. It can also be the eventual outcome of the coolant not being changed.
It might also be associated with overheating, a sign of more extensive head gasket troubles.

There is a test, a radiator leak-down test, which can show if the water jacket is not holding pressure, due to a leak somewhere. A compression test will show if the actual cylinder pressure is leaking too.
Bear in mind the Subies have 2 head gaskets, 1 each side. Unfortunately many mechanics will want to pull the engine out for this job. It is not absolutely necessary, but easier that way.
If you have resources to try the job yourself, here is a link
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f66/how-replace-ej25-head-gaskets-without-removing-engine-57335/

As it says there, insist that cheap aftermarket gaskets not be used.

2001 Ford Escape. Coolant leaking from somewhere. Went through bottle of coolant in 2 days.

If there is no sign of a leak you need to test for cylinder head leaks.
Warm up the engine and remove the radiator cap. Top up the water to the neck of the filler. Squeeze the top hose a couple of times to shift any air in the top tank of the radiator. Run the engine on idle and check for bubbles it the radiator, keep it topped up to the neck. Bubbles showing means you have a head gasket problem.

My van still shows sign off over heating according to my thermostat but recently replaced water pump and radiator

the 4.3 engine has a problem with leaking intake manifold gaskets. check for leakage behind the water pump. did you change the thermostat? This controls the engine temp. check for rusty radiator cap and replace if worn

The engine overheats on my toyota dyna 2001 model

Can be due to so many reasons. But check on
1. Radiator pressure cap.
2. If water level is dropping in the radiator after a long drive. If so there is leak inthe radiatorr and must be plugged or replaced.
3. If water level is intact , does is show signs of block, if so flush out the radiator.
4.Check tuning and timing of the engine.
5. check wheels if brakes are jammed. .

Coolant leaking

Hello Kasalama :

Is it possible to wash off the engine while protecting the distribuutor and other electronics so we can start with a clean and dry engine ? . * Make sure that your radiator is full and that the Radiator/ Coolant overflow reservoir is at the proper level . * I would put a large piece of cardboard on the floor and along with a bright flash light or shop light use it to guide you where the leak s coming from .

If that is not helpful , I would perform a pressure check on the cooling system . The pressure check can be performed as a diagnostic tool . Put the truck in park and apply the parking brake . Attach the pressure diapham and Start the engine . You will have to manually pump it to a specified pressure as indicated on the gauge/ manometer .

The pressure diaphram usally attaches where the " radiator cap " is . Applying pressure can show leaking hoses, pipes and leaks in the radiator or fittings .

Be mindful that you can also have a leaking Intake manifold Gasket .

I hope that this info has been of help to you .
