When trying to fill my gas tank it acts like it is full and if I press the gas trigger hard it spits gas back out. I can fill it but super slowly.
I recently had a tune up and I wonder if the fuel filter was put on wrong.
Alos, when at a low idle the car sometimes stalls out like it is not getting the needed gas.
Any help would be great.
I also notice this on my tiburon 2001, I find out that for a reason if I leave the keys in the contacts (even only at accessories), the problem occurs, but if I completly remove the keys while fillng the gas, no problem at all...
I had the vent check and it had no restriction. They checked the hoses too.
This problem is often caused by a clogged check valve at the charcoal canister, or a canister that has been gas saturated. The most common cause of blockage is spider webs, believe it or not.
Have the vent line checked. If clogged, won't allow to fill tank.

I have same problem but my tiburon is 98
exactly the same problem with filling my tank but it is a 98 Mercury Sable. Mechanic has looked and flushed line with no help. It drives me crazy and I hate getting gas. PELASE HELP!!
I have an '01 Tiburon too and my tank has this same problem, a mechanic looked at it and said he flushed the hoses but the problem is the tank and he said check for recalls but they are all for 2002-2003 tiburons. My tiburon was dated 08-28-01 though, but the company still said that car didnt have any recalls. HELP?
I have the same problem. I can't fill it past 3/4 tank. My mechanic tells me it's probably a broken baffle and the cure is to replace the whole tank or live with it. He says it probably won't get any worse, but I commute 150 miles a day and I need a full tank. I converted it to E 85 a while back and my mechanic says that likely has nothing to do with the problem. It's not easy to find a station when I need it though.
