I want to change the oil myself but I have never done it before. I have a 99 Dodge Dakota with 150k. It has a 4 cyl engine. I know the basics but not much more than that. How much oil should it take? Also I am thinking about using a synthetic. Is it worth the extra money?

Well its not that hard to change oil but here is some steps and tips.

1 Go to the autopart store and tell them what car you have and they will tell the right amount your car needs and they will give you the right filter too.
2 warm up your car for about 5 minutes this will make the oil to warm up and drain fast and also wont be sticking inside.
3 take the filter off which sometimes you need to filter tool to take it off.
4 Clean the hole where the filter was off.
5 Put the drain plug back
6 Put the new filter in and tight it hand tight.
7 Open the Valve cover Cap and put the new fresh oil in and do not over fill.
8 Start your car and let it run for 5 minutes then shut it off and let it set for about anther 5 minutes
until the Oil backs the oil pan then check the Level and make sure its right.

Good luck

Changing oil is pretty much the same, 5 quarts is all you need and don't waste your valuable money on synthetic, at how many miles already on the truck you don't want to use a different type oil because a lot of the gaskets will start to leak, hope this helps

How do i know if my transmission is slipping

How many miles have you done? Is the trans correctly filled with oil? Why do you think its slipping, when it changes up is there some delay in forward pull from the engine that gives similar symptoms to clutch slip? Its not that old and a well maintained trans that hasn't done much towing should do 150k without problems. Towing heavy trailers kills auto trans.

I'm a woman trying to teach myself how to maintain my own car. I have a 2009 Dodge Journey 3.5 v6. I wanted to know basic instructions on how to change the oil myself? any help pls?

You could try some YouTube videos on similar models.
Its a messy job, and for most people easier to pay someone to do.
You have to remove the drain plug from the oil pan to drain the oil into a pan, then dispose of it safely, and change the filter, then refill the oil pan with new oil.

Where is the water pump for a 97 dakota with the 4 cyl. engine? and can i replace it myself?

Follow the bottom radiator hose. It hooks from the radiator to the waterpump. They are not real hard to change.

I have a 1990 dodge dakota. I need to know where #1 is on the distributer cap. I know the firing orders , though i have no markings on the cap as to where #1 starts.

You can rotate the engine until #1 piston is at top dead center when it has the rotor on the distributer will point at the #1 on the cap.

4 cyl 1998 dodge dakota

hi this depends on how bad it is this with the engine off i presumme all vechicles have to breath is there any bad oil leaks or is it running rough but when you take the oil cap off it idles better if so you need to check pcv valve system first if there is no blockages the the piston rings are badly worn but if your having no problems then you will be ok
