PLEASE HELP!! Charged the battery all night. Turn the key, car turns over but will not start. Battery guage is reading a little lower than usual with the "dead" light flickering on and off. Already waited to see if flooding was the issue. This is our only family vehicle...please help.

We need more information, is the engine turn ,do you hear click when you turn the key to start position?

Your battery is definately suspect.Give it a good charge and check it again. If it drops like that when you turn on the lights replace it.A fully charged battery in good condition will read about 14.2V when fully charged. When you turn the key to start it will drop to about 11 and come back up when you turn the key off.

I had exactly same thing on my boat recently...which has a car motor in it. And I also charged the battery and I also had a reading that said I had charge. HOwever, I tried another battery from a car and it suddenly worked. Don't know why, but it really was the battery. When I put the old one back in, it still wouldn't start. With a new battery it's fine. Ya just never know why sometimes!! Good luck!

If you turn key to START position, what is the sound, is it;
1. no sound at all means maybe starter problem.
2. only heard Tik sound means starter problem (you can add relay but it will still happen in future)
3. crank sound but not start means battery weak.

You can also try to move gearshift to N instead of at P position before turn key to START. if it work mean your car safety switch at gearbox not know which gear you're on.

first of all, check voltage at battery car off should read at least 12.5 to 13 volts. now start car. at battery it should read at least 14 volts, if lower then 14 volts check alternator.

The starter is not the issue as you say the car suddenly died. That would not be caused by a bad starter or solenoid.

You car needs the battery to be charged to continue to run. While normally the alternator or charging light would usually come on, I think it has something to do with your alternaor not keeping the charge up on the battery. Without a strong charge, there would not be enough power to turn the engine over, which would explain the starter issue.

The fact that you said the battery had been charged overnight and there wasn't enough power to turn the starter over bothers me. While someone has told you the battery is good, I would take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. I have a feeling that the battery is at the root of the problem.

did u try the alternator take that in to autozone or pepboys and have them test it if it is not that is the starter

try checking the main relay under the dash

Will it Try to Turn over or anything????

You say the alt. is dead. Why not replace it? Is the battery light on when you run the car?
If the alt. is bad, you are running all that equipment just on battery power.
