Most owners of the old Ironheads try to use the oils that were used when they were built. They use straight 50 weight when the weather is cold and 60 weight when temps are hot. But, one could use 10W50 oil in them. I would not use synthetic as any oil leaks will intensify with the use of synthetic oil. The XLH, XLX, and XLS tanks hold three quarts with the exception of the XR1000 which hold two quarts.

What is the difference between a 1972 Harley Davidson Sportster XLH and XLCH @

Hi, Sam for this scenario you will need your service manual that has all fastener torque specs -fluid capacities and a wiring diagram on the back pages, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can not find the best tool you ever bought for your Harley, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.
For more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need for viewing or printing please click on the blue links below and for more specific information or questions at no charge please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Good luck and have a wonderful day.

How do i beef up oil presure 1979 harley 1000 iron head

You don't. This ain't an old Chevy or Mopar product. Your Ironhead may only hold four pounds of oil pressure idling on a hot day. But, the Harley oilling system is a high volume low pressure system. The bottom end of your Ironhead is built using roller bearings instead of shell type "insert" bearing like in a car or the foreign built bikes. In between the rollers, there is nothing to maintain the oil pressure on the system and the oil flows freely. As long as you've got a good "return" of oil coming back to the oil tank, your engine is fine.

Which post is which on generator on a 1975 sportster?

the post should be the same as an original. The wires should be green and tan. Green wire goes to the post towards the front wheel and the tan to the post nearest the engine. Don't forget to "polarize" the generator before starting. procedure is in the service manual. Momentarily short between the battery positive post and the field terminal.
