Speedo not working harley davidson wide glide 2006

Hi Jon_bryant, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. Please visit the website below for more information and good luck.

How to remove and replace a starter on a FXWG wide glide 1980 Shovelhead harley

To remove the starter from your Shovelhead, first disconnect the battery and take it out of the battery tray. Remove the battery tray, two bolts that bolt to the oil tank and the rubber mounts. Take the battery cable off the starter motor and take the bracket that supports the rear of the starter motor off. The bracket is bolted to the transmission and the rear of the starter motor. Take the remaining long bolt out of the starter. Work the starer out of the starter drive housing. Do not allow the starter motor to come apart as the two long slender bolts that you removed also hold the sections of the motor together. The same when you install the new motor. It will come apart and unless you've got some experience in getting the brush holder back on the armature, it can be a problem. Don't let the motor come apart.

What would make a 2001 Harley Davidson Wide Glide starter spin when trying to start ?

Hello,

If the starter is just spinning, and not engaging, it would be the starter soloniod causing your problem. They are easy to rebuild. Most of the time, you can simply disassemble the solonoid, clean it and put it back together - while you have it apart be sure to check that the spring is good.

If you find this information useful, please vote on this post. Thank you.

Oz
