Try a magnet, blue tack, putty or such, needles. Sometimes it is easiest to replace the barrel altogether as you are doing? Just take off the surrounding covers and wires making sure you draw a picture showing which wire is connected to where, then replace it. Ensure the new/ second hand one has a key with it. If you don't have a spare ignition key you may need to replace the door locks also. Might be best to go secondhand in that case.
If all that is not possible get a locksmith to come out and fix it. An inquiry to their charges is defiantly worth a phone-call. Good Luck
Like most fords of this age especially with a lot of start stopping most common problem is worn switch at back of ignition barrel easy to do just remove cowling to gain access and remove fram back of barrell will need micro screwdrivers to get of
it is a long test for this circuit and you will need a DVOM and a Scanner to run the test.
but basicly there are only 4 things that can set the code the ignation coils, the PCM, or the condensor, or the wiring betwine any of these componets, i recomend you take this one to a good shop, with out the test equipment it is only a guess as to what to replace, the most commmon thing would be the coils but it would be just a guess as to which one, it is not a sign of weakness to know when its time to get so help.
the ignition has worn and not tripping the contact inside. replace the ignition key and lock cylinder and inspect where it makes contact inside to make sure the little clip hasnt broke. hope this helps
Your ECU is going bad and needs to either be replaced or repaired. That 'no check engine light for 20-30 minutes' is a common problem that tells it's an ECU problem. The ECU won't power the fuel pump and other relays until the check engine light illuminates on the dash.
Get another switch for the saturn "they should come with the wires already attached" and unplug the old one at the wiring loom under the dash and then plug in the new one and start it with the new switch without having to disamble the steering column just to move the car. Then you can get the broken key out or replace the switch at your leisure.
