Chevy 1500: turn the key and all I hear is tick tic-tic-tic-tic

Help! I turn my iginition on my chevy 1500 and all I hear is tick tick tick tick tick ....I am pretty sure it has something to do with the starter.

I'm not going to have this truck long and was wondering whats the cheapest solution

Sounds like you have a dead battery, have it jumped and have your battery and alternator checked. also have checked for a draw after vehicle is turned off.

Spray PB Blaster or WD-40 into key hole, wiggle steering wheel back and forth while wiggling key back and forth and in and out. Good luck.

Car will not crank up. When you turn the key in the ignition you hear tic,tic,tic,tic, tic...the lights come on, the doors lock and the radio comes on.

If the battery is old, it may no longer have the cranking amp it needs to turn the starter. If you have a multi-meter. Check the load on the battery when you get someone to start the engine, if the meter reads that it drops below 10.5 volts. You need a new battery, if the readings are good, then you'll need a new starter.

Good luck and keep us posted, a set of good jumper cables and another car may help get the engine started for now by boosting the battery.

Severe ticking! i have been told its a lifter, ?

i always use 91octane and frequent oil changes..but still the tic tic tic.. finaly my mechanic used lucas motor oil treatment and today is the first day of engine silence.. we shall see for how long.. but seems like a cheap fix... try it.

can you hear the fuel pump buzz when you first hit the key /make sure it's getting fuel also try checking the timing belts //might of slipped..
