Subtle noise coming from tank on brand new 2010 Ducati 1198s.

I bought a brand new 2010 Ducati 1198s. I started breaking her in, and my last ride was out Ortega Highway and back this past Sunday. Upon my return home when I was cleaning my bike with the ignition off, I noticed a steady subtle hum. When I opened the gas cap, the noise stopped but resumed again when I closed the cap. Eventually it stopped. The Ducati mechanic at the dealership told me the tank was purging, and that this noise was ''normal''. Is this true? Or is there an adjustment (petcock??) that is needed to correct this issue and eliminate the noise? I am not a mechanic by any means but want to be proactive if there is a problem. Please advise. Thanks. Jim Anthony

Mate. What you have got is the tank, fuel etc.cooling down after your ride.Being a sealed unit, the tank, like a car, vents into the inlet manifold and the noise you hear is only seals getting air movement. My 98 st Duke does it and always has.If you lift the fuel cap and let it vent, you wont hear it.Yes its normal. My 83 mhr does it.Hope this helps

Breaking Down

The problem may be a pinched fuel or vacuum hose, or a weak/collapsed vacuum hose. The problem may be varnished fuel/carburetors. It may be an electrical problem: loose connector or defective conductor. I cannot help you other than this without having the Duc and performing a few tests. The Monsters are fun to ride.
