Find out how many gallons your fuel tank holds. Once it falls below a 1/4 tank and starts to shutter. Proceed to the nearest gas station and fill up. If you fill it up with 12 gallons and your tank holds 12 gallons then your fuel gauge is off. So it should be reading empty instead a 1/4 tank.

I have a 2002 lincoln ls that has gas guage reading only a quarter tank when full. I know there is 2 pumps on this car, one is the primary pump under passenger back seat and a jet transfer pump on drivers...

Fuel pumps outside the gas tank have nothing to do with fuel gauge readings. There is a fuel level sender unit inside the tank with a float which supplys variable ground circuit to the gauge. If you can find the wire to this unit, you can ground it to see if the gauge now goes to full. If so, sender unit in tank is bad, or has bad wiring/ground.

Hiccups after running below a quarter tank and then getting fuel.

For a 1989 Honda Civic, to remove the fuel pump after you've removed the tank, disconnect the fuel lines and connector, then remove the fuel pump mounting nuts. If there's a ring, unscrew it to remove the fuel pump. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gas gauge and tach do not read proper readings! What will cause this? The gas guage will peg past full when there is only quarter tank and tach reads 4500 RPM at idle

The gas tank sounds like a bad ground usually located under the car at the gas tank. I do not know but maybe they both tach and fuel gague get their ground from the same place.

Gas gage registers full but as i drive it doesn't fall past three quarters of a tank. how do i fix it?

Sounds like a bad sending unit which is mounted in the gas tank and has to be dropped to get at it.

Fuel guage reads half way and the truck runs out of gas

The float that helps detect fuel level is most likely broken. You or a mechanic will have to remove the fuel pump from the gas tank and check and possibly replace the float. Merry Christmas.

Failed to Start

your car has a electronic pump. sometimes in cold weather it will lag causing your fuel to be slow getting to your injectors. the humming is probably your electronic fuel pump. it could also be a exhaust leak. nothing big but just check your exhaust and all. now for the reason your fuel guage might be strange is because your float is located inside your tank, cold fuel will cause the float to stick sometimes and will throw off your guage
