B.S.A.500cc twin converted to 650cc Got Boyer Branson electronic ignition. Do I have to retard the ignition because I've got pinking?

Hi,you can get this pinking becouse the air fuel mixture is wrong,
check spark plugs if the plug is black-souty mixture is to rich,
if witer then the mixture is to lean,(wich could couse pinking)
or get a strobe-light and make shore the timeing is write first.
hope this was some help.
hope you get to the bottom of it.

I have a 83 xs650 starts for 2 seconds then shuts down, what is causing this?

I found that with mine. It would start and run for 10/15 seconds and stop. Leave a couple of minutes and start no problem then stop again. Took whole ignition system to Boyer Bransden and they tested it and the brain box was faulty. Replaced that and bingo. SORTED. Over 40 Years Proven Performance

Stuck tachometer

Fairly sure the tacho on the Africa Twin is driven from 1 of the ignition coils and/or 1 of the CDI units. I would suggest getting a large image of the wiring diagram from the web. Then if you can blow it up even further. That should give you an idea of which wire[s] you need to investigate. I have heard of and witnessed instances where moisture has gotten into connectors and cause all manner of strange problems. Also when checking the wiring make sure the insulation has not been damaged or some part of a connector or wire is not shorting to fame, engine or another electronic component.

85 GS550 and the spark module or the spark igniter is bad. swapped the coils from right to left to verify the coils are both good, and they are. The pick up coils also swapped and they are good. I only get...

hi mate ,,i've got the same problem.<br /> i bought a basket case 550ef with no igniter unit(cdi) fitted,,turns out they're near impossible to find used,or stupidly priced...if i were you i'd go down the boyer bransden route because you don't have to buy the coils or pick ups you can get the igniter module seperately.hope this helps.........john..

The locations of both sets of points in a 1976

It has been a while... but I believe there is a round access cover about 2" in diameter on the right hand side of the bike, forward part of the engine.

That corresponds with the end of the exhaust camshaft. 9_11_2014_6_00_28_pm.jpg
In this photo, it is chrome plated. They are held on by two philips head machine screws.

The points themselves are mounted on two plates. The first plate adjusts both sets of points, the second adjusts the difference in the two sparks.

That said, you might be on a wild goose chase. Most of the older T120s and T140s have already been converted to Boyer electronic ignition systems. MUCH more reliable, and much less maintenance. Smoother, and more precise as well.

Boyer conversion or not, the access plate in in the same place. It just might be a "pointless" ignition.

See these guys - they have very good telephone support - and will have Boyer kits in stock.
