Should I change automatic transmission oil on my 2004 kia sedona?

When having the last oil change, the mechanic(?) suggested I change transmission oil because its color was dark red/brown. Friends have warned me not to. What should I do?

Forget the friends advice
automatic oil should be light tan or cherry red depending on the brand of oil used
the oil should be changed around the 60,000 klm mark and done by accredited transmission shops
If you have a CV-transmission that requires a special oil (not auto transmission oil as they are not automatic transmissions --they have a belt running between variable pulleys which gives the impression that it is automatic but it is not)

Camshaft end seals leaking for kia sedona 2004

too complicated and expensive for a diy
as the seal is leaking , you will require a new timing belt as oil destroys belts very quickly
An accredited service center with experience on your make of vehicle will do the job inside 5 hours and if professional will replace all seals , hydraulic belt adjuster and idler pulleys to ensure that it lasts to the next scheduled belt change
make sure you ask if that is going to be done and insist that it is so or go somewhere else

What do I need to buy to do a tune up and oil change on my 2004 kia Sedona ex?

Oil, Oil filter, and spark plugs. Check the air filter for the engine, it is likely still ok, not changed in most cases until 36,000 miles unless you live in a dusty area.

Kia sedona automatic transmission gearbox

To fill the transmission fluid, you need a funnel that fits into the dipstick tube, add fluid there. If the fluid is black and smells burnt, that's bad. I would have the fluid changed. These transmissions don't have a filter, probally a bad idea.

The simplest way is to take your own trans fluid to a shop with a flush system available...otherwise you have to drop the trans pan....make sure you use the factory fluid

Cannot locate the spark plugs in the 2004 Kia Sedona engine

First you have to take off the black plastic cover then you will see the 3 on the front of the engine the other 3 are under the manifold, you have to remove the manifold in order to reach them, I suggest you take the car to a mechanic for this work.
