May be the coil. I tried a new carb, plug, gas, oil with no change. My local small engine repair shop replaced the coil and it started on one pull.
Suggestion anwer.
Meanwhile you have tried everything? maybe have find the problem but if not, then have tried controlled cleaned if neccesary tank filter (sludge in fuel tank) , fuel tap filter Shure there was the right fuel in the tank no mistake ? carburetor nozzle and or the float chamber is clean and with unscrewed floatchamber the fuel come in a good flow ? is the airfilter tight?, ignition in good shape to see a hell blue white spark? , the ignition has a fixed setpoint and should be allways on time then there is no problem in most brands but if it is by your brand, i dont know the tappets on the valves are still correct ? also a little chance that there is a problem to find, BUT HOW IS IT WITH THE OILLEVEL? unscrew the oil filler plug you should see the level of oil almost at the edge if so close it again start and the next thing is to unscrew the sparkplug and hold that sparkplug against a metal point (metal piece on the cilinder) , if its not sparking replace the sparkplug, and still not sparking, do something you should temporary do only remove the oil guard (watch only temporarily) IF THERE WAS STILL NOTHING TO FIND at almost least replace or clean control the on-off switch in the last hope of low costs, if that all tried and the spark was with all conditions not to see again, maybe a new ignition coil can be ordered , but beware there is one point you should not forget if the seller is asking you for some important things (most forget to do thats why i have priority on this get your manual if you have ? important for the Brand and model (type)of the generator but especialy important high priority on the motornumber and the year of build of that used engine if you have find the problem and must order a new ignition coil because of upgrades and modifications can be happened, then you cannot surprised in ordered the wrong coil for it thats the most important thing on te damaged ignition coil problems in the world. (we sleep only at night)
Sellers can sell you all they can deliver and if you don,t know about this motor number in most cases you get almost allways the wrong coil for the wrong used flywheel.
And you know if you order it and the seller is asking you for the year of build and model and motor number before he is selling, then you have luck and you have got a professional seller with still good warranty, THATS THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL not even the costs.

Hi Derrick
I assume you can turn over the engine, and the engine has run previously?
Check for spark, -take off the plug lead and connect an old spark plug to the ignition lead open the gap up to about 5/16 inch . Tie the thread of the spark plug to the engine to hold it and earth it with a bit of soft wire. Wind over the engine you should get a nice fat blue spark. If you get a nice spark do you can eliminate ignition issues. This just leaves fuel. You can then focus on this.
