SOURCE: carb on big bear 350 quad was plugged from sitting ,took apart and cleaned ,bike won,t idle unless choke is out a bit ,but if you push choke in and keep reved up will run ,also backfires when letting

it is a garantee that the main jet is stoped up with that grayish dried gas minerals..this not in the main jet valve you can remove, but actually in the bore on the carb body... you can try to use torch tip cleaner to open the hole ...hope you the best ....it is a very hard substance...someone tried starting the bike after being set up for a while without removing carb and cleaning first.....sincerely;R.B.V.

Shifter moves on big bear 350 but quad wont reverse now it goes forwards

for some reason you are not getting into reverse , there is no real reason it should stay in forward gears unless there is someting wrong with the shifter itself being in the wrong position this can happen take it off and reposition it and make sure your clutch is disengauging to shift gears , will it go into all gears or just 1 forward , ck into that and be a little more specific on the problem ,good luck

Yamaha 350 big bear. what type of clutch does this have

Try turning down the tickover speed. These machines have a centrifugal clutch which engages at anything over tickover. There is no lever.

I have a 91 yamaha big bear 350 4x4 electric start no pull start. question is bike only starts when in nuetral and the green light is on. i put the bike in nuetral but the light dosent come on and i cant...

The neutral safety switch is located in front of the shift shaft on the left hand side of the quad. It's an egg shaped, plastic , held on by two phillips screws. When you remove it, there is a brass pin with a spring under it in the end of the shift drum. If you look at the switch, there is a brass spot where these two things connect when it's in neutral. That makes a connection completes the fault circuit to allow the starter solenoid to engage. Check the condition of the spring and pin, make sure that it has enough pressure and length to hit the switch. If that seems fine, ground a temporary wire to the motor, put the bike in neutral and turn the ignition on. Touch the temporary wire to the brass dot on the switch and see if the light comes on. If it does, replace the spring and pin. If it doesn't, replace them all, the switch is bad and the spring and pin are subject to wear and pretty cheap. Good luck!

I Have Started lots of Motorcycles that peopel have even thrown A way.
The most problem is with the carb or electric.
This what I have been starting bikes that A pigs to start for my last 28 years of Motorcycles.
Even with kick start bikes can build compreshion and kick back.
This can realy tire you out too.

1st wiggel all of the wires check for burn marks.

2nd Fuse box check for correct ones have been put in.

3rd Spark Plugs just put in new ones low cost cost for brand new .Check to see if You have Spark
if you don't Get A tester And read the service papers .

4th most of the fuel is years old trust me you need to mix 25/50 of Avation with super TT olny with yamaha RD 350 .You have penzoil for two strokes stick to olny one .

5th Fuel line pull the whole lot out put a air hose down blow it out .Clean fuel filter down the line
Clean the Air Box

Warning some bikes dont like Engine start Some with YPVS..
Playing with the enging iddl switch is not realy recemeded if the Bikes Not Runing !.
The Center stand could be down some bikes don't go with the center stand Down ( Its a safty Thing )

Turn the fuel on wile clutch out this will un block a air lock in the fuel line
6th Look for the Steepest hill you can find ! Stick it in top gear And wile you Speed up Like Really Fast STAND UP ! And push your weight on the foot pegs .And Repet this you should be clocer in starting to 3rd Gear if not 2nd .Pull the clutch in If you Its just Getting The fuel in .

Quad will not start electricly, and pull start binds?

yes that would be the culprit!!!!! Mine went out on my 660 raptor.what really happens is the bearing blows up or your bolts get sheared off. in my case it was the bolts(all 5 of them). first take off the cover for your lower idle gears.then you will see the starter gear, move it with your finger.it should only turn one way.if it trns both ways.then you need to take off the left crankcase cover.and check it out.(i'll put money on it that you broke the bolts.)
