It must crank robustly
does it?
1st things 1st...
does it jumper cable crank.?
does the hot wiring of the starter crank it.?
if yes, it's good(that starter)_
if hot wire works, the key line is failing (ask how to test this)
i can't really guess, (im not a deity) but i sure can test them ALL and fix them all.
sure can.
and i don't need any STINK"N FSM book(LOL)

all this is about 5min work with a volt meter
lacking that, say so and we can do the hot wire ways.
there are 2 ways.

now if it cranks robustly , (crank shaft)
then that is a horse of different color...
    yah!
    and 50 more guesses.
or 1 to 5+ tests if savvy.
test one, is there spark to all cylinders?
    yes/no
yes, is the spark timed right.
No, well the cam belt slipped...
ah here is the video watch buddy scott.

Sounds like bad battery connections or ground. Brake lights on permanently may be draining battery also. Brake light issue may be switch at pedal out of position or adjustment.

Why is my truck acting like it has a dead battery when I try to start it

There could be several reasons why your truck is acting like it has a dead battery when you try to start it. Here are a few common possibilities:

1. Dead battery: The most common cause of a vehicle not starting is a dead battery. If your battery is old or has been drained of its charge, it may not have enough power to start the engine. You can try jump-starting the vehicle or replacing the battery if it is too old.

2. Bad starter: A bad starter is another common reason why a vehicle may not start. The starter is responsible for turning the engine over when you turn the key. If the starter is failing, it may not be able to turn the engine over, causing the vehicle not to start.

3. Faulty alternator: The alternator is responsible for charging the battery while the engine is running. If the alternator is failing, it may not be able to charge the battery properly, causing the battery to drain and the vehicle not to start.

4. Ignition switch problem: The ignition switch is responsible for sending power to the starter when you turn the key. If the ignition switch is faulty, it may not send power to the starter, causing the vehicle not to start.

5. Fuel system issues: If the fuel pump or fuel injectors are not working properly, the engine may not be getting the fuel it needs to start.

It's best to have a professional mechanic diagnose the issue to determine the exact cause of the problem and provide an appropriate solution.

Citroen troubleshooting

well since the starter was only 2 months old i am betting its an ignition short. When u turn the key, the solenoid on the starter engages the bendix gear with the engines flywheel and then energizes the starter motor. And when u release the ignition the solenoid and the starter motor should de-energize. hope this helps you.

1999 vw passat turbo wont crank or turn lights on

- Switch on the head lamps for 5 minutes.
- Keeping the head lamps ON, start the engine.
If the lights die,
- Check the battery terminals.
- Check battery state of charge.
- Charging system.
If the lights still glow sharply,
- Check fuses and relays in under the hood fuse and relay box junction.
- Battery to starter motor cable.
- Battery to engine ground and chassis ground cable.
- Solenoid on starter motor.
- Starter motor.
- Wiring.
-Ignition switch.

Engine fails to start

What makes you think the battery is charged sufficiently? My guess is that your battery doesn't have enough power to crank the engine (just because all the lights come on doesn't mean the battery is good enough to crank the engine). Try jumpstarting the car, or charging the battery. If your car starts, then your battery is getting old, it's time to replace it.

Although I have a year old battery in my 1990 Cutlass, I still have trouble periodocally starting the car. Any ideas? This isn't just in cold weather and I use a solar panel charger since I don't drive...

Hi by saying you have problems starting the car do you mean that when you turn the key to start the engine does the engine not turn over and you hear a faint clicking noise if this is the case then the chances are all your going to need is a new starter motor if it turns the engine over but dont start then let me know then i can assist you further ok

My gauges work but it wont turn over i dont hear any noise from the starter

Three possibilities I think:
First is weak battery. There may be enough juice to light the gauges but it takes power to turn an engine.

Second, bad solenoid. The solenoid is a relay which closes the high current circuit that delivers the cranking power to the starter motor. If you hear clicking in the engine compartment (not the starter) when you turn the ignition switch on it is probably the solenoid engaging and disengaging. However if the battery is weak it won't turn the starter motor. If the solenoid is clicking look at the battery first. The solenoid could be bad but the clicking indicates it's trying to work and there just may not be enough juice to turn over the engine.

Third possibility is the starter motor itself is dead. You have to answer some questions for yourself. Is this an old, neglected car or one that has been taken care of? I would be looking at battery. Can you jump start it? If yes then weak battery is the likely problem. If the car and battery are relatively new and in good condition you should suspect the charging system, that is, the alternator. Did this happen all of a sudden on a car that was running fine recently or has the car been sitting idle for weeks/months.Eliminate the easy stuff.
Clean battery terminals?
Good battery connections and ground?
Try jump start - if yes then follow up battery/charging system. If no start then try to hear for solenoid clicking. If jump start does nothing -figure the solenoid first. If it sounds like solenoid is kicking in but engine does not turn then the starter is looking a little guilty. Jump starting will answer a lot of questions. If the car is really dead then the car that is jumping may have to be connected and revved up a couple minutes to juice up the dead battery enough to turn the starter over. If it turns over a little during the jump start but just barely then you should figure your battery is bad.
