Mine would do this, intermittently, and after a couple of years I, while upgrading my lamps, that there was a short to ground (chassis) near the lamp fixture. I'd start looking there.
I would measure resistance of the wire feeding that each lamp to ground, and move that wire around to see if the resistance increases to try to isolate which side, or which lamp is causing the problem. Dont forget that it might be the tail light or marker lights on the side (if you have these)
