Push down on throttle, there is no power, obd light is on. Car idles forward and reverse, parked it, took my wife's car to work. Try it again after work, now it idles rough and there is smell. aveo 2006
The obd light with tell specifically what it is, is it gas or rotten egg - the latter means catalytic converter, gas smell probably flooded or not firing on one or more cylinders, need more details. Also, if the light is flashing it's warning of catalytic damage - raw fuel hitting the cat, smell could be heat from cat trying to burn off raw fuel,it will glow red hot.
solid light, it smelled maybe like fuel, it smelled like something burning. The strange thing is, it ran just fine the day before. I've unplugged the battery and ecm, doing more research, will try it again.
Oh yes, I've checked all the fluids and they are all ok.
The dealer repaired it, turned out to be a bad throttle body assembly.

SOURCE: OBD 1 and 2 will not communicate with PCM.
a blown fuse will also cause the obd to not communicate
SOURCE: 1992 Toyota Camry Rough Idle
start by pulling hose off egr valve see if idles smoother almost instantly
SOURCE: Ford Taurus: rough idle in drive and reverse
it could be that the tick over is two slow in brive,,,
set it up to tickover at 850,,950 rpm (in drive)
or it could be a gear box fult like the drive plate has a crack in it,,,letting the torque converter slap about,,,
chech tick over first,,, bont adjust tick over in gear unless the brakes are held hard on,,,
SOURCE: car idles rough in park also runs rough in overdrive
Sometimes a rough idle like that is a fuel filter. As you've already done the plugs and wires the fuel filter would be my next bet.

Hello angel 003801, if the car was running rough, and had acceleration issues before you changed the throddle body, I strongly recommend you get a new air filter. Many people are unaware that the air filter is like lungs to your engine, your engine needs a good mix of fuel and air to perform at it's peak. Also, most 10 minute oil change companies do not change the air filter, at best, some of them may take it out, hit it against something to clean some of the dirt out, and then put it back in.
If the engine seems to run better after putting in the throttle body I would still change the air filter if you haven't done that in a while. Also, make sure that the throttle body is mounted securely with no leaks, look around the area of the throttle body and make sure you didn't accidently knock of a vacuum hose, ( vacuum hoses are very small, usually black hoses, and there are several in the general area of the throttle body. If you should find a small hose that has one end that is not hooked to anything, look around for a small nipple that it may have come off of.

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates
at idle.
This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
