SOURCE: Aftermarket radio installation. 1987 VW

Hello
Proper hook up requires that you have one Battery plus that is turned off with the ignition, the other is always hot and this is called the keep alive memory battery plus circuit, keep alive power maintains the clock setting and the radio presets you have set. The proper wiring of the radio should be based on these wire colors from the factory original wire connector.

1987 Volkswagen Cabriolet Car Radio Stereo Wiring Diagram
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Red (Keep Alive Memory)
Switched 12v+ Wire: The radio harness does not provide a switched power source. Run a wire to the fusebox for switched power. Go under the dash and locate the harness that comes from the ignition switch, with a 12 volt test (available from any auto parts store) locate and tap into any battery plus source that turns on and off with the key.

Key locks don't operate with key when battery is dead

With no juice just what did you expect? to have them work with dead battery do the following:

Get yourself a smaller 12 volt battery and hook the negative to the engine. Then hook up the positive to the positive line that you already have going to your starter under the car. That should send juice through the wires and power the locks when you use the key.

How do I remove the ignition lock on my 1998 Mazda Protege? Tumblers are stuck. Key won't go past accessory.

if ou do not have the key, look at the replacement lock there'll be a tab which recesses when the key is turned to acc or on position. It is that tab which prevents you from removing lock cylinder it has to be forced into a recessed position or drilled to where the cylinder can removed. If u do then locate tab turn key to acc or on and push tab to recessed position and remove cylinder.

I need to disable my alarm on a 1997 bmw 528i.

Now im not sure since the manual says your model has the same alarm system as the 328i and on the 328i you can remove the module to disable by doing the following. you can unplug the control module. It is located under the glove box. Climb under the dash on the passenger side and remove a few screws on the trim panel under the glove box. Theres a black control module with a green connector. There should be a lock tab on the connector. press the lock tab and pull out the connector. The alarm should now be disabled. But if it has the special transponder key this may not work.
But if the only reason you want to disable it is because of the motion sensor setting of the alarm for no reason there is a solution for this. To disable the motion sensor, hit the lock button to arm, then hit lock button again within four seconds to disable motion sensor. Red light on rearview mirror should flash four times, then pause, then start flashing on regular intervals. this is most likely the reason if your having the issue where the alarm goes off every 20 minutes.
If you want to completely remove it below is a wiring diagram taken from the manual for you alarm system.
this is from the manual its the alarm wiring diagram.

How do you replace the ignition cylinder on a 1998 grand cherokee

Try these steps...

Step 1 Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them.
Step 2 Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft.
Step3 Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column.
Step4 Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out.
Step5 Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder.
Step 6 Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.

Bypasing ignition

http://www.ehow.com/how_2044915_hotwire-car.html

Hotwiring is used inilligal activities but in your case i dont have a problem in showing you how its done.

1.) Remove the part of the dash covering your ignition key assembly
2.) There should be 5 to 8 wires there
3.) Locate 2 wires of similar color
4.) strip these wires and tie then together this will turn on the ignition
5.) find the starter wire usually blue and touch it to these wires, Imidately remove it when the car has started.
6.) tape them up

If your wireing is a bit different or you dont have similar color wires then
use steps 1 and 2 from above
3.) locate the the on positive wire
4.) run a wire grom the negative battery pole to the on positive wire. (U can strip each wire there and ground it to the wire from the battery pole , the correct one will turn the ignition on.
5.) once located tie it to the ground.
6.) touch each one of the expose wires one by one until the car tumbles and starts.
