Wiring diagram roadstar 1700

My 04 roadstar just quit, and when I went to restart, the starter doesn't do anything, there is a solenoid where the points cover used to be, and a lever engages when I hit the start button, but nothing else, I check the relay where the positive cable hooks to and the cable to the starter comes off the other side, and I have no power going through it to the starter, check fuses and all are good

SOURCE: I don't understand my wiring diagram. How does the

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If the starter relay in your version uses blue / white and red / white wires, then to my understanding, connection would be:

  • blue / white - goes to the start switch and is supplied with +12 on starting;
  • red / white - goes to the starter circuit cut-out relay. This cut-out relay controls whether the starting relay gets a ground based on neutral/gear and clutch lever conditions.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Honda Shadow 750 ACE. While riding

Take the starter button off and put a 12 volt tester on one of the 4 leads that are wired into the button. Test each- If you find a hot line, take a small piece of wire and jump the current over to the other parrallel button. I worked on my bike for two weeks before I discovered this problem. Another problem was that the headlight would not come on. The starter would not crank at all. I took a screw driver and raised the brass leads on the switch so they would make contact and put the switch back together, and it worked. Good luck.

SOURCE: Starting fault

There is also a safety switch on the clutch lever that could give the same symptoms.
Another thing to check is the fuse block that has a starter relay built in (hidden) above the fuse compartment. My D5 has the same symptoms and this is the problem. If I keep the starter button depressed for some seconds the relay operates and bike starts.

SOURCE: Getting no power to nothing. Battery good. starter relay

I don't think it's your relay, if you've got power to nothing.Unless it is somehow shorting to the frame.

Likely candidate is the key switch itself. Check the wire that feeds the switch from the battery. If it doesn't have power, you likely have a broken wire or hidden fuse.

If it's got power check the other wires coming from the switch for power with the switch on. If no power there, the switch is bad.

Do you know anything about automotive electrical ? How to follow a wiring diagram ? Basic electrical testing ? Using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter etc.... You could go to http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams ! Enter your vehicle info ,year ,make , model an engine size . Then under system click on electrical distribution ,then under subsystem click on power distribution . It will show 2 diagrams found . Click on the search button an two blue links will pop up .Click on the first one scroll down to last diagram . This is a diagram of ignition switch an power feeds ! Check the two yellow wires for B+ voltage . No power there would mean one of the fusible links blew . Scroll back to the top diagram ,the fusible links are shown at the top left .They hookup at the starter solenoid > There are videos on youtube showing basic electrical testing , how to read a wiring diagram , how to use a DVOM . This is how you have to find the problem ,testing !

2002 Buick Regal won't start

Hi Debbie , Do you know anything about automotive electrical systems an testing ? Viewing wiring diagrams to see what all is involved in the starting system on your vehicle would be the first step ,then testing the electrical circuits for the starter using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter .
How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
Starter Voltage Drop
Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. Year ,make , model an engine . Under system click engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link. Looking at the diagram I see when the key is turned to start it send a crank signal to the PCM - engine computer , if the PCM gets a valid fuel enable & starter enable signal from the anti-theft system it will energize the crank relay sending B+ voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . That is if the park neutral safety switch is OK . You mite try putting the vehicle in neutral to see if it starts then. These switch wear on the inside that could cause a no start problem . You can test from the crank relay ,watch this video VEHICLE RELAYS Operation Diagnosis In the video he uses a horn circuit , your crank relay works the same .

My 2001 yamaha roadstar makes a clicking noise when trying to start and it wont do anything else. I took off the cover from where the click is coming from (bottom right side to the left of the brake), and...

When you push the starter button you hear a click , so you know the button is working. Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. Take a wire and jump the two posts on the solenoid or touch the two cables together. If your starter works, then you need a new solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you need to replace the starter assembly , the manufacturer does not make replacement parts for the starter.

Subaru ea81 starter solenoid wiring diagram

Some starter solenoids are mounted on the fender near the battery and some are on the starter itself.

Typically the ones mounted on the fender have two larger posts and one smaller post. For the larger posts: One connects strait to the positive post on the battery. The other connects strait to the starter. The smaller post connects to the neutral safety switch which connects to the start position of the ignition switch. Here is a diagram. Make sure the solenoid is grounded good.

For the solenoid that is mounted on the starter: Connect the positive post of the battery to the large post on the starter. Connect smaller neutral safety switch/ignition switch wire to the smaller post.

Here is a diagram if you have both solenoids

Don't forget to hook backup any other wires that were hooked to the positive side of battery/solenoid like alternator wire etc.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

It sure sounds like a starter solenoid issue, they act just like that, had exactly the same concern on my car, no crank just clicks under hood, new starter solenoid contacts cured the problem. I don't know if your solenoid is rebuild-able or not, I think it is a Japanese starter so most likely it is.
