My 04 roadstar just quit, and when I went to restart, the starter doesn't do anything, there is a solenoid where the points cover used to be, and a lever engages when I hit the start button, but nothing else, I check the relay where the positive cable hooks to and the cable to the starter comes off the other side, and I have no power going through it to the starter, check fuses and all are good

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
If the starter relay in your version uses blue / white and red / white wires, then to my understanding, connection would be:
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Take the starter button off and put a 12 volt tester on one of the 4 leads that are wired into the button. Test each- If you find a hot line, take a small piece of wire and jump the current over to the other parrallel button. I worked on my bike for two weeks before I discovered this problem. Another problem was that the headlight would not come on. The starter would not crank at all. I took a screw driver and raised the brass leads on the switch so they would make contact and put the switch back together, and it worked. Good luck.

There is also a safety switch on the clutch lever that could give the same symptoms.
Another thing to check is the fuse block that has a starter relay built in (hidden) above the fuse compartment. My D5 has the same symptoms and this is the problem. If I keep the starter button depressed for some seconds the relay operates and bike starts.

I don't think it's your relay, if you've got power to nothing.Unless it is somehow shorting to the frame.
Likely candidate is the key switch itself. Check the wire that feeds the switch from the battery. If it doesn't have power, you likely have a broken wire or hidden fuse.
If it's got power check the other wires coming from the switch for power with the switch on. If no power there, the switch is bad.
