Check your engine coolant. If its brown you may have a blown head gasket which is causing it to leak into the cooling system. (expensive fix) but if it's not brown I'd take it to a mechanic and have further inspection. Hope this helps:)

the intakes go bad on these engines....... they leak coolant in the cylinders and cause a hydro lock that causes the rods to bend making the piston skirt hit the crank......" clicking noise" theres a law suit in progress for this issue......... you can find info on the internet

SOURCE: Ford Windstar oil leak

Most possible oil leaks from valve cover rubber oil seal. Remove valve cover, inspect , clean surfaces, and replace with new rubber oil seal .

Ford water pumps have a "weep hole" on the bottom of the water pump. When the bearings go bad the coolant will weep from there. Also you may just need to get in there with a flashlight, probably from underneath the truck and see exactly where the steam is coming from. Check all the heater hose attachments and the radiator hoses. If you are lucky it may just be a worn out hose.

SOURCE: 1995 Ford Windstar Engine Knocking

No if the oil light has flickered you have oil pressure loss some time just belive the sensor do help us out. lifter do not cause oil pressure loss pressure is built in the rotation of the crankshaft. The knock under the plenum will point you to that cylinder that is affected, (main bearing) as for a 1995 the injectors can only cause a misfire but no knocking noise, will they honor the warranty

Hi, this is not the first time i've heard of this problem..I have repaired engines with rod knock, crank bearing knock and piston slap after these treatments. These products can clean so much carbon and varnish from the engine that it brings the real internal problems to the surface. Try using thicker oil

White smoke coming out tail pipe and useing oil on a 2002 7.3

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If it's only on cold start ups, then it's ok. You should be glad for it's a sign of engine in top condition. If the white smoke doesn't stop even when running then you may have a worn out piston rings which will surely require replacement to resolve the problem.

It surely is burning oil that's why it emits white smoke.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

2001 ford windstar .Dorman 615-177 kit was installed .It has 350 miles on it since the install but on startup it's blowing white smoke.doesn't stumble ,idles fine and drives fine.Smoke is just brief on...

Valve seal leaks will cause an engine to smoke on start until the oil burns off. If a head gasket were leaking it would be smoking constantly.

Went to start my 1999 windstar for no reason it started making a knocking noies after it quit knocking it started smoking ran fine when I parked it what might of happened

You have described symtoms usually associated with two different engine problems. The knocking is generally a sign of a lower engine (Con rod or main) bearing failure. The smoking is generally a sign of oil in the upper cylindr/combustion chamber. This can be traced to rings and or valve problems in most cases. Unless of course a valve or valve spring has failed which may cause physical damage to the upper end. Any further attempt to start or run the engine at this point without a proper diagnosis could caus efurther damage. Did the eng stop running after the smoke was seen?

Overfilled engine oil on a 2003 porsche 911 turbo.now smoke comes out of exhaust--HEAVY Smoke.I drained engine oil again(along with the turbo)put in 9.25 qts of oil, still having heavy smoke.

The oil was overfilled this could cause a large amount of oil to enter the exaust and possibly the intake depending on crank case ventilation conditions. If you are positive engine oil levels are adjusted perfectly(warm engine check level running for dry sump oil level ect.). Time is needed to burn off oil residue in exhaust system and intake. Warm up engine low rpm no load, drive vehicle slow with little boost over 5 mins slowly raise rpms for another 5 mins keep driving smoke will burn off while making other drivers mad. sorry just smile and wave.
The engine oil on this vehicle should only be changed by an experinced tech.

Smoke shift funny

as the oil gets way way too old to be in the engine anymore, it thins and burns easily. when last its last svc? as for the ful, sounds rich maybe tune up time? or a bad idle air contol solenoid?

Exhaust smokes when engine starts

Most common reason for that is worn valve stem seals and or guides or gunk buildup in the cylinder head blocking oil return holes.... Or, broken piston ring or burned piston lands. (use compression test to verify that) Knocking can be from oil detonating in cylinder or bad rod bearing etc.
