I took it to the shop today it is a module? A little box that is causing the fan to speed up and slow down and not work right, it is a dealership part, they have to call and get it from Mitsubishi on Monday. Thanks for all your help!

I have a 1995 Ford Mustang and the fan occasionally stays on after cut off, but when i turn the ignition (not completely on) back it turns off. This time, it stayed on, even after turning the ignition on and completely on. The temperature here is not hot at all, around 65 degrees. I don't want it to run my battery down. Help.

The Fan is functioning normally. When you shutdown the engine the temperature continues to rise and the fan will prevent coolant temps from spiking.

Emtbjb is correct. Engine temps actually rise when the engine is shut off, the fan running is completely normal.

A faulty CTS could also cause this issue. A variance in resistance within the sending unit could cause error. "easing off the gas" will have little effect unless your beating the snot out of the thing. I would look into what the current operating tempature is during driving. Also a recent thermostat change could cause an over reacting fan. Unless the ambient air tempature is rather high where you live the fan shouldn't run every time you drive the car upon shut off.

Does the fan eventually shut off? If it does, this is a normal operation for cars with electric fans. There is a temperature controlled switch that keeps the fan going to help cool the engine after the car has been running.

  • Anonymous Oct 05, 2008

The fan doesn't always come on. It depends on how hard you drove the car just prior to shutting it off. The harder you drive the more heat is generated. Recommend that you ease off the gas a couple of min before your destination. this will allow the cooling system to circulate while you are generating less heat. Faster cool off and longer car life.

Cooling fan keeps running after engine turned off on a 1996 ef ford falcon

Some fans do keep running after engine is switched off for a short period of time (up to 5 minutes) Check with a service person (ford) to see if that is the case or if you have a faulty sensor.

Most engine fans will come on and run after the engine has been turned off. It does that to cool the engine and is run by a temperature control. This is perfectly normal.

Why does the engine fan NOT turn off on my 2002 Jaguar S Type 4.0 liter? It runs for several minutes after turning the car off and will come on while driving. I just replaced the sensor and it is still...

It would not be abnormal, so long as the fan does not come on when you switch on from cold. The fan's job is to draw air through the radiator to cool the contained liquid to a suitable working temperature. The fans sensor is activated by the temperature of the coolant. If this is a problem which worries you, try driving as gently and slowly as possible for the last mile or two of your journey. If things are normal the fan should not run on switch-off as that 'trick' will have allowed the coolant to get below the fan-kick-in temperature before you stop the engine. If your vehicle has a temperature gauge use the rteading as an indication.

2007 Pontiac G6 GT radiator fan keeps running after engine is turned off. Runs for another 4-5 mins after engine is turned off.

Heat sensor keeps blowing air thru radiator until it cools, then cuts off. Some auto do this. If it bothers you let the engine idle a few min. after you drive it and then turn car off. When you drive your car and the engine is hot it heats up even more when you turn it off because the water has quit circulating. The fan will run til it cools. It's supposed to do that.

Why does the fan keep running on 2005 jetta after turning off

You are talking about the thermo electric cooling fan, its operation is independent of the car's electical system. It is switched on and off by the engine temperature. When you park, the engine heat soaks upward to heat the thermostat turning the fan on. It will run until the engine cools down and the thermostat switches it off. Quite normal operation.

Heater problem

is your heater set on defrost this will cause your engine fan to run because it turns on the compressor for air conditioner this helps to extract moisture from your warm air defrost  and the fan in the engine compartment helps keep it the engine cool from the extra load on the engine this is normal

Fan motor keeps running on Audi A4 2004

fan motor has a thermal switch which turns on the fan as soon as the engine heats up. what happened there is that the switch is stuck on the closed position which keeps the fan on all the time. you should go to a garrage and have the part changed.
