Hello: LPS means Lamps, so Stop lamps fuse, check it, that may be your problem if its open (blown)

Your brake light switch may be failed, it should be attached on the brake pedal assembly and activated when you depress the brake pedal.

Lumina troubleshooting

Check fuse.
Check if center light works.
Check for power at light sockets.
Check brake light switch.
Manipulate the turn signal lever.

- To check the brake light fuse, open the passenger door and remove the fuse panel cover that is located around the corner from the glove compartment. On the back side of the fuse panel cover there should be a fuse location chart. The brake light fuse is #23, located in the socket that is dead-center among the mini fuses. I believe it is supposed to be a 15A fuse. Confirm the condition of the brake light fuse and replace if necessary. If the fuse fails again, determine and correct the cause.
- Also, see if the center brake light is working properly. If it is, then the brake light switch is working. If the center light is not working, the brake light switch is suspect. That switch is a spring-loaded plunger switch that is of the "normally closed" variety. In this application the switch is usually held open by the brake pedal arm, except when he pedal is depressed. Then the spring within the switch holds the contacts closed so that the brake lights will operate.
That switch is located under the instrument panel. Look for a push-button switch that is contacting the brake pedal lever. If the car has cruise control there will be two switches, one above the other. I believe that the lower of the two is the brake light switch.
- With the brake pedal depressed, see if you have power and ground at the brake light sockets. One good way to confirm that is to remove a brake light bulb and connect a 12v. test light across the contacts in the socket.
- An operating center brake light combined with no power to the 12v+ terminals at the left and right brake light sockets could indicate a defect within the turn signal switch. If you get to the point where you suspect a defect there, try applying rearward pressure on the turn signal lever and see if the brake lights work then. If that procedure confirms that the defect is within the turn signal switch, you can replace the turn signal switch. Or you could try my trick which cost me less than a dollar and has worked for years.
See attached photo.

Spacer (piece of rubber tubing?) is used to apply rearward pressure on turn signal lever. I have not disassembled the switch assembly, but evidence suggests that electrical contacts inside the switch depend on the mechanism being positioned properly. If the internal positioning device failed (perhaps the lever was pushed forward) then an external device can be made to hold the lever and switches in proper location.
If you attempt this repair, consider applying some lubricant as deemed necessary.
Good luck.

I have a 2000 chevy 2500 and the tail lights, tag lights and brake lights have stopped working, I checked the bulbs and they are good, fuses are good. Have not replaced the brake relay under the hood. Do I...

check for power at the wires going intop the tail lights, real common that the circuit board is bad, but unlikely both at the same time. The tag, tail lights and brakes are 2 different systems. Do the turn signals work normally? if so the wiring from the turn signal switch to the brake lights is GOOD. the stop light switch had\s a ORANGE wire that should have 12V if not ck STOP LPS fuse, when brake pedal is depressed, the WHITE wire is 12V (at the stop light switch) if that is OK, the turn signal switch COULD be bad. The wiring harness plug is near the back left under the tailgate, see if that is disconnected?

Which fuse controls rear running lights

The Malibu's tail light fuse is located within the driver's side interior fuse box.

Look on the bottom-left side of the interior fuse compartment; there is a fuse labeled "Stp Lps" (stands for Stop Lamps). Grasp the fuse with the fuse puller; pull it straight out. good-luck !!

My brake lights work, signals work but the running tail lights won't.changed bulbs checked fuses.

check the fuse box in the engine compartment. There is a 15 amp fuse there for PARK LPS and there is also a relay. If you want to check the lights switch, you can interrogate the relay socket.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check . Please let me know if you have questions.

My 1990 Olds Cutlass Calais is missing the fuse box cover and therefore has no diagram for fuse placement. Is one available online? Copy I can print or just refer to in order to replace correct fuses?

I have always had a place in my heart for the Olds Cutlass. I own a '90 Olds Cutlass Calais--WITH the fuse box COVER. I went out to the car and removed the cover and have it next to me so that I can type the EXACT fuse order as they appear on the inside cover. There are 2 col. When I've finished the l/h side, I'll make a line to indicate the start of the r/h side. I will also put the Circuit on the left & fuse on the right. If you are ready, HERE WE GO:
