My car is Audi A3 2.0 tdi se S tronic Diesel 2005, it makes ratelling noise from the trnsmission box (near the flywheel) when the engine is cold and when stationary. Any idea what the problem is?

  • amjed01 Aug 20, 2008

no it'sn ot manual, like I said it's S tronic, which is is a new technology that Audi uses made of two clutches talking turns. But it drives like the automatic, (no clutch pedal).

the noise it makes goes and comes, it doesn't stay. it sounds like a pully is loose or something, and when I looked under the car i culd see the noise coming from the area of the flywheel between the engine and the transmission box. I I took the car to tow garages, but both say they have to take the whol transmission system out to find out, which is very costly. And am only trying to figure out if anybody else has come across a similar problem in this type of cars so that I know whether to bother with it or no. many thanks for your help.

Thanks alot for taking the time to advise on this matter. Much appreciated. I was trying to be accurate by saying ' s tronic', as using the workd 'auto' would very much offend Audi and VolkWagon (It did happen to me!) who both introduced this technology first in their cars. It looks from the outside like auto, but the real inside part is more or less like the maunaul transmission box except for the presence of two clutches taking turn and controlled by a microprocessor. I wanted to get a clue of what I could be heading towards by having the transmission box taken out, cos once it's out, then I'd be under the mercey and the greed limit of the mechanic!!

But there seems not escape :(

Once again, thanks for your time and help.

If it is a manual trans (you didn't say) it could be gear rattle, this is caused by normal trans wear, the only way to fix it is to pull the trans and rebuild it back to factory specs, but the rattle is common on a diesel car or truck and will not cause any problem but the noise.

One last comment, I have a huge back ground in auto repair, very few would know what a S Tronic trans is, why weren't you clear about this and just said automatic, my point is all cars have the same basic repair problems no matter the make or model, a noise from the trans is a noise that may occur in all transmissions, like gear noise, do you get what I am saying my friend?

Audi 2005 2lt tdi when its cold it idle as soon I acselarate smoke come out and start to jerke please help

You didn't say what colour the smoke is. I assume it is from the exhaust and is darkgrey/black sooty sort of smoke which along with the engine misfire would indicate faulty diesel injector(s).

My Audi A4 2000 TDI year 2005 has run on two tanks of Bio fuel recently and it hasn't recovered... started stuttering. Fuel system has been flushed out, air flow mand air flow meter has been changed but...

Audi 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines with pump-nozzle injection system, (year 2005 included), don't have permission to run with Bio fuel !!!
First you must replace fuel filter, interflow a quality Diesel additive (for 60 liters Diesel fuel dosage) fill up tank with Diesel fuel and run at least 300 km on highway at 3000-3500 rpm in 4-th gear.
I recommend you Foerch Diesel Reiniger System additive! I use this additive from 3 years ago and is certified on Audi TDI engines!

The engine start very hard when the engine is hot.

Check the coldstart sensor,it might think that the engine is still cold and the fuel mixture vill then be wrong, you can also have leaking injectors and then it dripps diesel into the cylinders.
